Michael Bay In Talks for Transformers Reboot

Michael Bay is reportedly engaged in talks once more with Paramount regarding a possible return to the Transformers series.

The news emerges following Bay’s separation from Netflix and Will Smith, regarding their long-stalled action film titled “Fast and Loose.

Bay Drops Out of Fast and Loose

The planned reunion of Bay and Smith in “Fast and Loose,” as reported by Deadline, did not materialize due to disagreements over creative aspects. According to the report, Bay advocated for a more action-focused approach, while Smith favored a comedic direction.

Netflix continues to plan on filming the project during October and is currently seeking a replacement director. Smith will still be involved in the production, portraying a man who has lost his memory, discovering he’s been leading two distinct lives – one as a crime boss for a cartel and another as an undercover CIA agent.

Bay in Talks for New Transformers Movie

Following closely on his heels, Deadline verifies whispers that Bay has started negotiations with Paramount regarding re-entering the Transformers franchise, planning a fresh take on their flagship production.

It aligns with the latest news suggesting that there are five distinct Transformers productions underway at the studio. This includes potential plans for a G.I. Joe collaboration and another live-action movie helmed by Josh Cooley, who directed Transformers One.

Bay helmed the initial five Transformers films from 2007 to 2017, raking in over $4 billion worldwide. Although subsequent installments fell short of expectations, Paramount remains optimistic about the franchise’s brand power, given the upcoming Skydance merger.

Bay’s Other Projects

Besides working on “Transformers”, Bay is also creating “OutRun” at Universal – a film adaptation of the popular video game. Sydney Sweeney has been cast to play the lead role, with Bay and Brad Fuller set to produce. Jayson Rothwell is responsible for penning the script.
