Michael B. Jordan Reveals the First Person He Called After Oscar Nomination News

Michael B. Jordan received his first Academy Award nomination for his performance in the thriller Sinners. The film has generated a lot of buzz and is a strong contender during this awards season.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Jordan discussed receiving the Academy Award nomination as a significant achievement, feeling it validated years of consistent effort. He shared that having worked in the industry for so long, he’s always looked up to the Academy, its actors, and filmmakers. Being recognized alongside them, he explained, feels incredibly affirming and solidifies his place among those he admires.

The film Sinners achieved a record-breaking 16 Oscar nominations, making it the most nominated movie in history. Director, writer, and producer Ryan Coogler also received multiple nominations for his work on the film.

Jordan explained he didn’t watch the nominations as they happened. He opted to sleep in instead of waking up at 5:30 a.m. to hear the announcement, planning to check his phone later. “I didn’t get up at 5:30. I really slept!” he said. He was busy with editing work on ‘The Thomas Crown Affair’ and wanted to wake up naturally to whatever news awaited him, which turned out to be a lot of positive support.

Jordan said he was still processing the incredible response to the film. He emphasized that its success wasn’t due to any single individual, but rather a result of the entire team’s work and the audience’s support. “I’m still taking it all in,” he explained. “It really shows what we can achieve when all the elements come together and people connect with the movie.”

Jordan immediately called his mother after finding out the news. He described the conversation as deeply emotional and important, explaining that she was the one who initially inspired him to pursue acting. He also mentioned he’d been trying to reach Ryan Coogler, but they hadn’t been able to connect amidst all the excitement.

I’m really keeping an eye on Michael Jordan’s post-basketball career, and things are moving quickly for him! He’s currently involved in a remake of The Thomas Crown Affair, and not only is he acting in it, but he’s also directing – a pretty impressive double duty, if you ask me.
