The Blade reboot saga keeps getting stranger.
Mia Goth, who was expected to play Lilith, is now sharing details about why the film was ultimately cancelled, and she reveals just how much of it had already been filmed.
Mia Goth: “I Don’t Know What’s Going On With That”
In a recent interview with Josh Horowitz, Jenna Ortega was very direct. She admitted she has no clue why the movie Blade is taking so long to get made.
She admitted she wasn’t sure what was happening with the project, but guessed they were being careful with it because it’s a really important film to them. She said she doesn’t have any details about the delays, but hopes things will become clearer soon.
What started as Marvel Studios ‘taking their time’ with the film has now become a six-year process of constant changes, including multiple script rewrites, director changes, discarded ideas, and a constantly evolving vision for the movie.

Chemistry Test, Costume Fitting… and Then It Fell Apart
Goth revealed that production actually moved much further than fans realized.
She explained that the project went pretty far – they flew her to Atlanta for chemistry tests with Mahershala Ali, as well as costume and wig fittings. She was optimistic about how things were developing, and thought Ali had a unique and strong vision. Sadly, the project ultimately fell apart after that.
Marvel had already finalized casting choices, costumes, and character development – but the project ultimately fell apart.

A Period Piece, Blade’s Daughter, and Abandoned Plans
So, the story of how ‘The Batman’ came to be really checks out with everything I’ve heard. Apparently, an early draft of the script wasn’t set in the present day at all – it was a period piece, taking place way back in the roaring twenties or thirties. It’s fascinating to think how different the film could have been!
Costumes created for that version were handed off to Ryan Coogler for his film Sinners.
Early versions of the story focused on Blade’s daughter, reducing Ali’s character to a supporting role. This approach, which relies too much on established characters or replacements, is similar to what fans disliked in Marvel movies after Endgame.
It’s no surprise that Mahershala Ali pushed back on becoming a guest star in his own movie.

Back to Present Day — Again
Kevin Feige, head of Marvel, revealed that the studio developed at least four different scripts for the Blade movie. Two of those versions were set in the past, but they ultimately decided a present-day setting worked best.
This aligns with Goth’s statements about her costume and wig fittings happening before the reboot fell through once more.
Goth is currently unsure about the status of the Blade project. While Ali seems prepared to move forward, Feige continues to make excuses. Despite Marvel claiming Blade is important, their actions suggest otherwise.
