Met Gala 2025 Raises Record-Breaking USD 31 Million for Costume Institute at Anna Wintour’s Fashion Night

In an unprecedented feat, the 2025 Met Gala shattered records by amassing a staggering $31 million donation for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. This is the first time the event has crossed the $30 million mark, outdoing last year’s contribution of $26 million.

The gathering marked the debut of the Costume Institute’s spring showcase, titled “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” which examines the evolution of Black fashion and dandyism spanning over three centuries. This exhibit, influenced by Monica L. Miller’s book Slaves to Fashion, investigates the importance of men’s clothing in Black culture and its influence on personal identity.

2021’s grand event was jointly organized by Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams, and Anna Wintour. LeBron James took on the role of a distinguished organizer. The dress code, “Tailored for You,” invited attendees to interpret the theme creatively by donning customized suits and fashion-forward outfits inspired by menswear.

Distinguished guests at the gathering were models like Gigi Hadid, who captivated everyone in a 1940s-style golden Miu Miu dress, and rapper A$AP Rocky, who generated buzz by revealing that Rihanna is expecting her third child at the event.

The money collected will be utilized for the Costume Institute’s displays, books, purchases, and infrastructure upgrades, maintaining the ongoing commemoration and conservation of fashion heritage.

Starting May 10 and running till October 26, 2025, the captivating “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” exhibition will be open to all at The Met Fifth Avenue. This exhibit showcases modern design contributions and pays tribute to influential figures like André Leon Talley and Virgil Abloh, as reported by Vogue.
