Mena Massoud Reflects on Post-Aladdin Career Challenges Ahead of Wish You Were Here Release: ‘There’s Ups And…’

As a die-hard admirer, I can’t help but share my excitement about Mena Massoud, the charismatic breakthrough star of Disney’s Aladdin, embarking on a fresh chapter in his career with his role in Julia Stiles’ directorial debut, Wish You Were Here. This journey he’s undertaking, filled with growth and challenges, has me absolutely thrilled!

Since his admission in 2019 about struggling with auditions following the global success of Aladdin, Massoud has shared insights on how drastically things have transformed for him.

During a screening of the romantic film in New York City, Massoud shared insights about the tough lessons he has garnered from his experience in showbiz. He explained to People magazine, “I believe it’s more about changing one’s mindset rather than anything else. We can easily become fixed on viewing things as negative or positive.

As Massoud shares, his growth over time and experience have equipped him to handle the ups and downs of the industry with tenacity. Looking back at filming Aladdin in 2017, it’s been approximately eight years since then. He feels incredibly fortunate to be able to follow his love for acting.

As you progress through this field, you come to understand more deeply just how fortunate we are to be able to do our work. While there will always be challenges and setbacks, maintaining a genuine enthusiasm for your work is crucial.” – Massoud emphasized.

Ever since Aladdin, Massoud has been expanding his resume with an assortment of intriguing productions. These encompass The Royal Treatment, a Netflix film premiered in 2022, as well as the chilling horror movie titled The Sacrifice Game, which hit the screens in 2023.

Currently, he is featured in the film titled “Wish You Were Here,” marking the first directorial effort by Julia Stiles, known for her role in “10 Things I Hate About You.” The ensemble also includes Isabelle Fuhrman, Jennifer Grey, and Kelsey Grammer.

In an interview, Mena Massoud shared that he was captivated by the movie’s themes and looked forward to collaborating with Stiles due to her profound knowledge in the realm of romantic films. The film, Wish You Were Here, premiered in cinemas on January 17, 2025.
