As a seasoned researcher with over two decades of experience in the dynamic world of cryptocurrencies, I must say that the emergence and growth of meme coins have been nothing short of intriguing. While they may seem like the butt of jokes to some, their explosive rallies cannot be ignored or dismissed lightly.
Meme coins are already the biggest talking point in the crypto space owing to their absurdity and explosive rallies. However, they are not the biggest category of tokens yet. In fact, meme coins rank 21 when it comes to their market cap in the crypto market.
As a researcher delving into the dynamic world of cryptocurrencies, it’s evident that the rise of meme coins has been marked by volatility. Preliminary indications suggest that 2025 could be a pivotal year for their development. Consequently, I have taken it upon myself to scrutinize the leading meme tokens from prominent blockchain networks, aiming to predict their potential performance in the near future.
Solana Meme Coins
This year, meme coins on the Solana platform have been the center of attention, with popular tokens such as Pudgy Penguins, Fartcoin, and Gigachad dominating the crypto market. However, it’s POPCAT that has truly shone, boasting a staggering 6,000% increase in value so far this year.
In mid-November, POPCAT reached an all-time high of $2.10, but since then, its performance hasn’t been strong. It has dropped by about 64%, currently trading at $0.74.
In simpler terms, reaching the peak once more and continuing to advance might be challenging in the immediate future. However, if this altcoin manages to establish $1.00 as its support level again, there’s potential for a comeback and further growth.
The story surrounding Solana’s meme token is gaining traction, which might provide enough momentum for POPCAT to rebound towards $2.10 and potentially even surpass that level. However, if developers decide to cash out in the near future, this recovery could become difficult, possibly causing POPCAT to drop instead.
Regarding the potential future of Solana-related meme tokens, Lennix Lai, the Chief Commercial Officer at OKX Global, shared with BeInCrypto his optimistic outlook, stating that there are many exciting developments on the horizon.
As an analyst, I delve deeper into the story of Solana’s token ecosystem, which isn’t just about raw figures, though they are undeniably significant. Over the past three weeks alone, we’ve seen more than 250,000 new tokens emerge on DEXs each week (specifically, 272,000, 276,000, and 251,000). This is far beyond any other network. What’s driving this phenomenal growth? It’s the combination of Solana’s exceptionally low costs, lightning-fast finality, and a vibrant creator culture that fueled the massive meme token wave in 2024. This technical edge has metamorphosed into a dynamic ecosystem teeming with unique social interactions and community-driven energy, as Lai explained.
It’s clear that the swift expansion of Solana meme coins suggests a strong possibility that this platform might emerge as the second largest hub for humor-based digital assets.
Ethereum Meme Coins
On the Ethereum network, often referred to as the largest hub for meme coins, you’ll find prominent figures like Dogecoin and Shiba Inu. Yet, it was the lesser-known token SPX6900 (SPX) that truly made waves, skyrocketing by an astounding 9,362% so far this year.
The altcoin caught on to the trend and managed to attract the interest of meme coin enthusiasts. This made it one of the 15 biggest meme coins in the world, holding a market cap of $748 million.
Currently, SPX is being traded at a price of $0.80, however, it has been finding it difficult to break through the resistance of $0.91 for approximately two months. Contrary to the general market’s upward trend, the near-term perspective for this meme coin has remained rather gloomy.
To regain its all-time high of $1.19, a 21 cent increase ($0.91) is essential for SPX. This represents almost half the distance from its current price. On the other hand, for the meme coin, it’s vital to hold above the support level at $0.56. This has been crucial in maintaining the altcoin’s stability recently.
If this support is lost, it might weaken the positive outlook (bullish thesis), potentially causing substantial financial losses for investors. This situation could also trigger increased selling from SPX holders who may choose to protect their profits by offloading their assets.
Ethereum is likely to remain dominant due to historical biases and the influence of early meme cryptocurrencies. However, Solana could pose stiffer competition because its network is notably less expensive compared to Ethereum.
Base Chain
Meme coins built on a base chain didn’t experience as much significant growth compared to those on Ethereum and Solana networks. But there was one exception – Brett (BRETT) – which saw an extraordinary increase of approximately 12,800% over the past year.
As I currently analyze the situation, BRETT is sitting at a price point of $0.125, significantly lower than its All-Time High (ATH) of $0.236 achieved this month. This meme coin appears to be heavily influenced by broader market bullish signals in order to regain its former position at the top.
For cryptocurrency BRETT’s altcoin, currently maintaining a position above $0.100 – a crucial support point. It seems unlikely that it will fall below this level at present. Nevertheless, if investors engage in significant selling, there is a possibility that the value may dip under $0.100, potentially causing unease among investors.
In light of Ethereum’s leadership and Solana’s advantages, it seems challenging for Base Chain to become the dominant force in this industry. However, it’s intriguing to observe the potential growth of Base meme coins by 2025.
