The new documentary about Melania Trump is getting unwanted attention in Los Angeles. Posters advertising the film, titled Melania, have been repeatedly vandalized with offensive images, including Hitler mustaches drawn on her face and references to Eva Braun.

LA Metro has noticed a lot of damage to ads on buses and at bus shelters. After some of the ads for the movie “Melania” were vandalized at bus stops, Metro moved those buses to different parts of the city to try and prevent further damage, according to a Metro spokesperson who spoke with NBC4.
Although the agency doesn’t manage the shelters directly, they’re acting fast to prevent any more damage to the advertisements.
The activist art group INDECLINE, famous for past projects like creating nude statues of Donald Trump, claimed responsibility for several noticeable acts of vandalism. They admitted to altering at least one billboard, which quickly gained a lot of attention on the internet.
The movie, directed by Brett Ratner, follows the 20 days before the 2025 presidential inauguration. It’s the first big project from Muse Films, a company launched last year by Melania Trump.
I just got a look at the numbers for the new documentary, and wow, Amazon MGM really went all-in! They shelled out a record-breaking $40 million to acquire it – the most ever for a non-fiction film – and then dropped another $35 million on marketing. But despite all that investment, the early buzz from box office analysts isn’t exactly glowing. The latest projections from National Research Group suggest it might only open around $5 million this weekend, which feels surprisingly low considering the money spent.

Brett Ratner’s return to directing has reignited a debate surrounding past allegations. He hasn’t worked in Hollywood since 2017, when several women publicly accused him of sexual misconduct. In a recent Fox News interview, Melania Trump defended her decision to work with him, stating, “He was the best one, and he was great to work with.”
Beyond her appearance in the film, the First Lady has been actively promoting it and continuing her charitable efforts. She recently visited the New York Stock Exchange to raise awareness for the documentary and held a private screening at the Kennedy Center, inviting political and business leaders. She’s also remained dedicated to her Fostering the Future initiative, which supports children in need around the world.
The documentary has faced challenges internationally. It was canceled in South Africa due to the current political situation there. Here in the U.S., comedians such as Jimmy Kimmel have made fun of the film, drawing attention to Melania’s annoyance that other news stories are dominating the conversation around its release.
The movie will open in the US on January 30th in more than 2,000 cinemas. A big question for Muse Films is whether it can succeed despite problems with damaged posters, uncertain reviews, and ongoing global issues.
