At the Invictus Games Vancouver Whistler 2025, Meghan Markle shared a fun, backstage moment with Nelly Furtado last Saturday, February 8. That day, Furtado uploaded a video to Instagram showing her and Meghan engaging in some lively, friendly poses.
The award-winning musician quoted the words from her popular track, “I’m Like a Bird,” in her post. She said, “Undeniably stunning, that much is clear @meghan @weareinvictusgames.
In the recorded scene, the two individuals were seen playfully making silly expressions as Furtado filmed. All of a sudden, Prince Harry entered the picture with a grave expression, catching them off guard and causing them to chuckle. To conclude the video, Meghan and Furtado reciprocated with affectionate gestures like blowing kisses and waving at the camera.
The surprise visit by Prince Harry certainly brought more joy to the occasion. As the Earl of Sussex nonchalantly followed them, his deadpan expression caused Meghan and Furtado to break out in fits of laughter.
Furtado posted another message on her Instagram Stories, this time along with a video, expressing that she was enjoying herself greatly at the #InvictusGames surrounded by these precious individuals. Additionally, she tagged Meghan’s recently created Instagram profile and the official Invictus Games account.
At BC Place in Vancouver, Furtado kicked off the Invictus Games Opening Ceremony as the main act on February 8th. During the event, she sang some of her well-known tunes, including “I’m Like a Bird,” which was subtly featured in a video shared on Instagram.
At the event, her music was played alongside a dance performance by the ILL-Abilities crew, a team of dancers with various abilities. Furthermore, she shared the stage with Mattmac, a visually impaired musician and performer, for a duet. Notable artists at this high-profile gathering were Chris Martin, Noah Kahan, and Katy Perry.
Prince Harry, who established the Invictus Games in 2014, delivered a touching address at the competition. In his speech, he stated, “Over the past ten years, it seems like I’ve lost track of the number of times you’ve shared with us that the Invictus Games have been a life-saver for you. However, with all due respect, I must express my differing view.
It wasn’t Invictus that rescued you, but rather you did so yourself. You were the one who battled through uncertainty and hopelessness. You were the climber who scaled your personal mountain and allowed us to join in your journey,” he added.
Through these Games, you see the hidden strength and resilience inside people – an indomitable spirit that remains undefeated. This is the enchantment of the Invictus Games.
From February 8th through the 16th, an international sports event taking place in Vancouver and Whistler, Canada, will be happening. This competition is specifically designed for wounded, injured, or ill military personnel and veterans.
