In the book ‘Words and Disaster and Ceremony,’ Meg asks the townsfolk to address her as the ‘Witch of Lapis.’ Later, she encounters Sophie who escorts her to a festival that occurs every 20 years, providing hints about Meg’s curse. However, Sophie gets sidetracked by the media, leaving Meg to explore on her own. During this solitary exploration, Meg comes across a girl in search of a servant.
They revel in the festivities until Meg encounters Eldora, the Witch of Demise, who forewarns that removing the curse will demand something valuable from Meg. It’s later disclosed that the mysterious girl is actually Chloe, the Witch of Words, a covert half-spirit disguised beneath a body double.
In Episode 8 of “Once Upon A Witch’s Death,” Meg finds an unusual mark on Mary, a girl residing in Lapis, that appears like a burn. Faust then discerns this mark to be the “Mark of the Devil,” implying Mary has been pledged as a sacrifice to a malevolent, perilous entity.
Because of the dangers at stake, Faust will instruct Meg to keep a distance from Mary. Regardless, Meg is likely to disobey Faust and assist the girl instead, potentially putting herself in harm’s way as she searches for another moment of happiness that could further her mission.
