It seems the rumors are true that the initial Iron Fist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be a diverse and inclusive (DEI) version, set to debut in the upcoming Eyes of Wakanda animated series. This aligns with the comic book retcon, positioning Iron Fist as more representative and progressive.
“Not the Iron Fist you expect”
The opening episode of the show made its debut at the Annecy Animation Festival on Friday. Director Todd Harris affirmed that Iron Fist would feature in the series and hinted, “Prepare for an Iron Fist, but not the one you’re accustomed to.
In simpler terms, Harris additionally shared details about the plot for “Eyes of Wakanda“. He described it as primarily a “spy tale” that will span various eras, moving from one time period to another. The storyline revolves around retrieving stolen Wakandan technology throughout different historical periods.
Based on past speculations, it seems that the Iron Fist from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) will make his debut in the film titled “Eyes of Wakanda”, which differs from the character portrayed by Finn Jones in the Netflix series.
What did the rumors say?
Concerning the gossip, it was previously disclosed through the Can We Get Some Toast leaker (who was later shut down by Marvel), that Iron Fist would be introduced as a fresh character within the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the film Eyes of Wakanda.
According to the source, it’s been confirmed that the upcoming Iron Fist character will be a woman named Janora. She is expected to appear in the series, alongside a character from Wakanda named Basha.
It appears quite plausible that Basha encounters Janora, the Iron Fist, in the eternal city of K’un-Lun during his mission to gather perilous vibranium artifacts. This suggests that Basha is a valiant Wakandan warrior.
What happened in the comics?
In the Marvel Universe, as part of the progressive Marvel NOW! movement, a teenage girl named Pei inherits the role of the Iron Fist from Danny Rand, the initial Iron Fist. Much like how Ironheart and Iron Man have their respective roles, Pei is one among many characters who carry on this tradition.
Or, more concisely:
Pei, a teenage girl in Marvel Comics, assumes the role of Iron Fist from Danny Rand, the original bearer, as part of the Marvel NOW! initiative. This pattern can be seen with characters like Ironheart and Iron Man.
Marvel Comics, in an unexpected move, revised their history and introduced the character Fan Fei as the original Iron Fist. This female counterpart reportedly existed over a million years ago. Incredibly, isn’t it?
Marvel’s Eyes of Wakanda will premiere in August 2025, only on Disney+.
