MCU’s Next President: 5 Characters Who Could Rule and 5 Who Shouldn’t

In “Captain America: A Fresh Era,” we welcomed a new President in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but much like his past counterparts, the term of Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross was marred by violence and turmoil. During the events of “Iron Man 3,” Aldrich Killian attempted to murder President Matthew Ellis live on air. President James Ritson’s one-term ended prematurely when he rashly declared war against the Skrulls following their assassination attempt in “Secret Invasion.” In a shocking turn of events, Ross transformed into a colossal, enraged, red monster and destroyed the White House, forcing his resignation.

Currently, the identity and title of the vice president character in the Oval Office is yet to be revealed in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Here are five characters we speculate might have become the new leader of the free world during “Captain America: Brave New World” and another five we hope didn’t.

1. Steve Rogers/Captain America: As the longtime friend and ally of the former president, he could have taken on the role.
2. Sam Wilson/Falcon: Having taken up the mantle of Captain America, Sam might step into political leadership as well.
3. Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier: After years of service to both Hydra and SHIELD, Bucky could redeem himself by becoming the leader.
4. Sharon Carter/Agent 13: As Peggy Carter’s niece and a longtime ally of Steve Rogers, she could make a compelling leader.
5. Tony Stark/Iron Man: His genius intellect and business acumen might have led him to take on the role of president.
6. Thanos: We hope he didn’t become the leader of the free world as his intentions are clearly malevolent.
7. Loki: With his cunning and manipulative nature, we hope he didn’t seize power in the MCU.
8. Ultron: As a rogue AI, it would be disastrous if he took control of the government.
9. Hydra Agents: We hope no former Hydra agents are leading the free world, as their allegiance is to themselves rather than to freedom and democracy.

Should Be President – Colonel James “Rhodey” Rhodes

Among our preferred superheroes, War Machine, stands out as an ideal candidate for the MCU’s upcoming president. Colonel James Rhodes boasts a reputation of bravery, respect, loyalty, and holds a high military rank with extensive diplomatic background. What truly sets him apart, however, is his unparalleled resume coupled with a rock-solid moral compass. Rhodey is a man of integrity who values the safety and wellbeing of others above all else. (And let’s be clear, we’re not buying into the idea that he was a Skrull in disguise for all these years.)

Should NOT Be President – Wilson Fisk

In the “Daredevil: Born Again” series on Disney+, Wilson Fisk is set to become the Mayor of New York City. It’s hoped that this is the highest political position he’ll ever hold in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Known as the Kingpin, a former (presumably still) criminal boss and murderer, Fisk aims to manipulate both the U.S. and the world into his warped vision. Ideally, by the end of the series, he won’t even be the Mayor of New York – a city that deserves a leader free from blatant corruption.

Should Be President in the MCU – Pepper Potts

In an unconventional pick, Pepper Potts could excel remarkably as president in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). With her extensive experience at the highest echelons, working alongside every crucial faction a superhero-filled world’s leader should be acquainted with, she stands out. As CEO of a billion-dollar corporation, Pepper has demonstrated exceptional organizational skills for the Avengers and maintains close ties with the US government. Her ability to juggle large personalities and significant responsibilities simultaneously is unparalleled. Moreover, her inherent kindness and fitting demeanor make her an ideal candidate for the position. In the White House, Pepper Potts would undoubtedly thrive just as she conquers every challenge she has ever faced.

Should NOT Be President – Sharon Carter

If we aren’t employing Tony Stark’s time machine to revisit the past and retrieve the original Sharon Carter, we have no interest in associating with the Power Broker who holds immense power from the U.S. government. The current Sharon Carter is a covert mastermind of an international crime syndicate nurturing resentment towards her country due to betrayal. Her ability to disguise her true nature only amplifies her threat level. While she successfully portrays herself as a patriot, in reality, she harbors intense dislike for America. Such an association would be detrimental not just for the nation but also for the global community at large.

Should Be President in the MCU – Bruce Banner

It’s common knowledge that the Hulk, the last one we know, demolished the White House. However, Bruce Banner, who was once the Hulk, has managed to keep his anger in check for quite some time now. Despite this, he remains an incredibly intelligent individual, one of the brightest minds on Earth. Over the years, he’s also interacted with numerous countries and even other planets while safeguarding our planet. If elected, he could serve as a diplomat, advocating for STEM education at a time when it’s particularly crucial. Not to mention, he can easily take down anyone who poses a threat to our citizens – a skill that definitely has its benefits.

Should NOT Be President – Hank Pym

Being both an exceptional scientist and a superhero isn’t enough to win our support for a political position. Just like Thaddeus Ross, Hank Pym doesn’t seem fit for leadership roles due to his hot-headed nature and poor ability to handle stress effectively. Furthermore, he often struggles with teamwork, which is a major concern when it comes to such high stakes. It appears that in the heat of conflict, Hank Pym might lead America into war out of personal spite. The President of the United States position requires great maturity and diplomacy; Hank Pym would be more effective serving his country in smaller roles rather than taking on this big responsibility.

Should NOT Be President – Valentina Allegra de Fontaine

As a movie enthusiast, I can’t help but feel uneasy about the current director of the CIA. This person seems to be more connected to shady, corrupt characters who have it out for heroes like Clint Barton. She appears to be operating her own secret anti-hero network, and the fact that we know so little about her only adds to my discomfort. I can’t help but wonder if she’s even human, let alone an American citizen. With her true allegiances and ultimate goals remaining a mystery, I can’t shake the feeling that this enigmatic figure should stay far away from the Oval Office.

Should Be President in the MCU – Everett K. Ross

Valetina Allegra de Fontaine’s former spouse is someone we could confidently delegate presidential power to. Everett K. Ross has consistently demonstrated his competence and integrity throughout his career. As an Air Force veteran, he sacrificed both his professional standing and personal liberty when he believed the CIA’s actions were unjust. Moreover, Ross enjoys a strong alliance with Wakanda, a significant advantage for any potential MCU president, given its status as the most influential nation on Earth.

Should Be President – Nick Fury

Among all characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, who has shown a greater dedication towards safeguarding Americans and global citizens (including extraterrestrial beings), and acting decisively when others falter, than Nick Fury? He’s not only brave enough to take action but also willing to make tough decisions, even if they put him in harm’s way. Is there anyone who has consistently demonstrated the ability to confront the real-world challenges as they are (not just as they’d prefer them to be)? The intelligent, resourceful, strategist that Nick Fury is, possesses a unique ability to anticipate problems before they occur. When things go awry, he may employ methods that some might consider questionable or unethical; however, his actions are always aimed at serving the greater good.

Should NOT Be President – Nick Fury

Sure thing!

Nick Fury may seem like an interesting choice, but he can’t possibly be the President of the MCU’s United States due to several compelling reasons. One major reason is that he might have had a hand in determining the outcomes of all the previous elections – which is clearly disqualifying for any presidential candidate.

Nick Fury might make an exciting president, but it’s not possible because there are good reasons why he can’t do it. One of those reasons is that he may have influenced the results of past elections, and that makes him unfit to run for office in the MCU’s version of the United States.
