MCU’s ‘Armor Wars’ Sounds Canceled, Claimed To Be On Hold

It’s being circulated that the “Armor Wars” production has hit a snag, with reports suggesting a full overhaul rather than just a pause. However, there’s a buzz that this might mean the project is no longer moving forward, as it was initially planned for Disney+ before transitioning to a movie.

According to Daniel RPK, it appears the movie has been temporarily postponed. It may not be released until after “Avengers: Secret Wars,” which is slated for release in 2027, so we can expect it sometime in 2028 or later.

It’s also suggested that the story is being reworked and rescripted because of the controversy sparked by the Secret Invasion Disney+ series, which allegedly unveils Don Cheadle’s character, James Rhodes, as a Skrull who wasn’t present during Avengers: Endgame for Tony Stark’s demise, his best friend.

What do the rumors say?

The rumors comes via Daniel RPK who says (via X):

  • The film is on hold.
  • It’s likely to release after Secret Wars.
  • The story will be completely different from the original plan.
  • The script is being rewritten due to backlash from Secret Invasion.

Is Armor Wars canceled?

I actually wouldn’t doubt if Armor Wars has simply been canceled.

One notable approach is transforming the well-known narrative from the comics centered around Tony Stark. Fans seem to be growing weary of character substitutions, as evident in the series “Captain America: Brave New World“.

If Robert Downey Jr. isn’t coming back as Tony Stark in the MCU, I propose they reboot the character by casting a younger actor akin to how James Bond is periodically recast. The Armor Wars plot could serve as an excellent foundation for this transformation. It features engaging characters and plenty of action, making it an appealing choice to continue the story.

The series “Armor Wars” originated during Marvel’s more progressive era, an epoch that appears to be winding down. Nate Moore, who has been associated with “Armor Wars,” recently announced his departure from Marvel Studios. Moore is also known for producing shows like “Brave New World” and the unsuccessful film adaptation of “Eternals.”

The same Nate Moore who once stated he wouldn’t hire writers that read comics, has also been criticized for his role in Marvel productions. It was reported that he advised the director of “Secret Invasion” not to read comics. One might wonder how well that advice served them.

The creator of “Armor Wars” has likenessedly referred to the project as similar to “Blade,” implying both a progression and an eventual halt, leading many to speculate that “Armor Wars” might be on its way out.
