As a seasoned gamer and avid Marvel fan who has witnessed the evolution of Iron Man from comic books to the big screen, I must confess that Robert Downey Jr.’s recent comments about Elon Musk struck a chord with me. While I admire Musk’s groundbreaking achievements and his undeniable resemblance to Tony Stark in terms of charisma and business acumen, I can’t help but feel that he could learn a thing or two from the older, wiser version of our beloved superhero.
In simpler terms, Robert Downey Jr. suggested that Elon Musk might want to moderate his actions slightly, as the entrepreneur’s behavior often draws comparisons to his character, Tony Stark, from Iron Man.
In their chat, Kara Swisher observed that Elon Musk seems to be emulating the character of Tony Stark, the Marvel superhero famously played by Robert Downey Jr. in the movies Iron Man and Avengers.
In 2010’s “Iron Man 2”, there was a short scene where Elon Musk and Robert Downey Jr.’s characters interacted, as Musk appeared for a brief cameo. This encounter took place during the Monaco Grand Prix, where Tony Stark met up with Musk’s character.
In the recently aired episode of On With Kara Swisher, on Monday, Swisher inquired about Downey’s perspective on Musk emulating Tony Stark’s character. This seems to allude to Musk’s bold and vocal demeanor, which resembles Stark’s personality.
Downey stated, “I’ve interacted with him only a few times. As an older Caucasian American man in recovery, I would appreciate if he could tone down the rhetoric a bit, but that’s not my decision. I understand that the concept of ‘Everything is okay because we’re going to Mars’ doesn’t resonate with me. However, it’s important not to dismiss the numerous accomplishments that demonstrate his importance.
2022 saw Mark Fergus, the writer of Iron Man, disclose to New York magazine that the character Stark, who debuted in comics in 1962, was influenced by Elon Musk, Donald Trump, and Steve Jobs from Apple. Fergus pointed out, “Musk embodied Jobs’ genius with Trump’s flair for showmanship. He had the entertaining appeal, celebrity status, and tangible business accomplishments.
Elon Musk gained popularity in popular culture through his ventures to colonize Mars, his management at Tesla, and unique items such as the Boring Company’s flamethrowers. Additionally, he starred in various films during the 2010s, including “Machete Kills,” “Transcendence,” “Why Him?,” and “Men in Black: International.
Yet, following his increased political engagement post-X acquisition, Elon Musk’s prominence in popular culture has noticeably decreased. Lately, he has become vocal about endorsing Donald Trump’s reelection bid.
