MAUL-SHADOW LORD Trailer Shows the Ex-Sith vs. the Empire

Here’s the official description of the series from Disney+ and Lucasfilm, along with the newly released poster.

Following the events of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, this action-packed story takes place on a planet the Empire hasn’t reached. There, Maul is trying to rebuild his criminal empire when he meets a discouraged young Jedi student. This student might be exactly who Maul needs to help him carry out his ongoing quest for revenge.

What does the trailer reveal? It seems the story is set during the very beginning of the Galactic Empire, similar to The Bad Batch. Like that show, we see early versions of Stormtrooper armor alongside vehicles still used during the Clone Wars. The trailer also features two Inquisitors we’ve seen before: the Eleventh Brother, who is eventually killed by Ahsoka Tano (as seen in Tales of the Jedi), and Marrok, another Inquisitor who later becomes a puppet of the Nightsisters – he first appeared in season one of Ahsoka. Knowing that Maul’s criminal organization, Crimson Dawn, will be powerful by the time of Solo (about ten years later), it appears Shadow Lord will show us how this criminal empire began.

I’m so excited about Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord! Sam Witwer is, of course, back as Maul, which is amazing. The cast is really strong too – Gideon Adlon plays Devon Izara, and Wagner Moura is Brander Lawson. I’m also thrilled to see Richard Ayoade as Two-Boots, and Dennis Haysbert as Master Eeko-Dio-Daki! Chris Diamantopoulos is Looti Vario, and we’ve got Charlie Bushnell as Rylee Lawson. Plus, Vanessa Marshall from Rebels is back as Rook Kast, alongside David W. Collins as Spybot, A.J. LoCascio as Marrok, and Steve Blum as Icarus. It’s going to be an incredible audio drama!

The new Star Wars series, Darth Maul – Shadow Lord, will begin streaming on Disney+ on April 6, 2026. Each week, two episodes will be released, and the last two episodes will air on May the 4th.
