Matthias Schoenaerts, ‘Supergirl’ Villain, Handed Six-Month Prison Sentence

Okay, so here’s the deal: Matthias Schoenaerts, who’s signed on to play the villain in the new Supergirl film – a character named Krem of the Yellow Hill, by the way – is currently facing some pretty significant legal issues. It’s definitely a developing story, and could potentially impact the movie’s production, but right now, it’s a bit of a headache for everyone involved.

A Belgian court sentenced 47-year-old actor Matthias Schoenaerts to six months in jail, a €4,000 fine, and a one-year driving ban after finding him guilty of driving without a valid license.

Look, this isn’t exactly a surprise. I’ve been following this actor for a while, and it turns out this isn’t his first run-in with the law at all. In fact, court records show he’s been convicted eleven times previously. It’s a pretty troubling pattern, honestly.

Police stopped Matthias Schoenaerts while he was riding his motorbike in Pelt, Limburg, on two occasions – April 5th and April 21st, 2024. On both days, he was found to be without a current, valid driver’s license.

Schoenaerts lost his driver’s license in September 2021 in Antwerp after being caught driving under the influence of drugs. To regain his license, he needed to pass specific tests and exams designed for people in his situation, but he didn’t complete them.

Even though Schoenaerts didn’t appear in court today, he was sentenced. As part of the sentence, he’ll have to retake all the tests he originally needed to complete.

This doesn’t mean the actor will immediately go to jail. He can still challenge the ruling.

This conviction is unrelated to his arrest last week. Schoenaerts was stopped by police in Pelt again last week, and reports indicate he was driving without a valid license at that time. He also allegedly refused to take a breathalyzer test and was uncooperative with officers.

Matthias Schoenaerts will play a key role in the new Supergirl movie. His character, Krem of the Yellow Hill, is the primary antagonist from the comic book series the film adapts.
