Mattel Is Making a Whac-A-Mole Live-Action and Animation Hybrid Movie, Apparently

The Mattel Universe is expanding with a new film, moving beyond the Marvel Cinematic Universe. You might be surprised to hear this, given the recent success of the Barbie movie. The influence of Margot Robbie seems limitless! As for details, there are more than a dozen movies in production, and we’ve covered many of them here. But now, there’s another one to add. Mattel and TriStar Pictures are working on a unique project: a live-action and animated hybrid movie about Whac-A-Mole. (Thank you Variety for sharing this unexpected news with us.)

For those who might not be aware, Whac-A-Mole is a straightforward game. You can play it on an arcade machine or a smaller desktop version. The game has 4 to 8 holes in its surface. Your task is to use a large hammer and strike as many moles that pop out of the holes as you can before time runs out. The more moles you manage to hit, the higher your score will be.

In the Whac-A-Mole film produced by Mattel, it’s expected that the moles will be animated, while the people striking them will be portrayed in real life.

It’s unclear what the plot might be or what’s happening in Tinseltown at the moment, but we can say for certain that Mattel Films president, Robbie Brenner, is excited about their upcoming movie project.

Whac-A-Mole is not just a game; it’s a roaring test of reflexes that has brought laughter, excitement, and a touch of disorder to households for fifty years,” stated Brenner. “We’re thrilled to collaborate with TriStar Pictures in transforming this timeless experience into a thrilling, action-packed cinematic adventure.

So yeah, there’s your weird news for the day. Have a good one!
