Matt Reeves Addresses Batman Robert Pattinson In James Gunn’s DCU

On a chilly Sunday evening at the Golden Globes, I found myself listening intently as Matt Reeves hinted at the potential casting of Robert Pattinson as Batman in James Gunn’s DC Universe.

It’s been suggested that Gunn is considering Robert Pattinson for the role of the DCU’s Batman. While Gunn has acknowledged talks on this topic, it’s important to note that, at present, these discussions take place within the context of two distinct cinematic universes.

What did Matt Reeves say?

Josh Horowitz interviewed Keanu Reeves regarding Batman within the DC Universe (see interview here). This conversation comes after Horowitz had a chat with James Gunn on the same topic. In response, Reeves shared his thoughts.

Ultimately, it’s about whether it’s logical or not. What’s been fantastic is that I had a story I wanted to share called “The Epic Crime Saga,” which has been the main focus of our project. It’s crucial for me to bring this narrative to life, and James and Peter have been incredibly supportive in allowing us to do so.

Reeves continued:

I can’t predict what the future holds, but at the moment I’m focusing on preparing for the shooting of ‘The Batman Part II’, aiming to make it extraordinary and exceptional – that’s the key priority.

Horowitz questioned Reeves on that topic and wondered how things might play out if Gunn were to prefer Robert Pattinson as the DC Universe’s Batman. To this, Reeves replied:

“I don’t know. We’ll have to see where that goes.”

How will it work out?

It’s been suggested that if Robert Pattinson joins the DC Universe, director Matt Reeves may have creative control over Batman and related characters. Given his penchant for realism and gravity in storytelling, which contrasts sharply with James Gunn’s more light-hearted take on comic book characters, it seems fitting that Reeves would oversee Batman. However, to ensure a cohesive narrative, both directors might need to collaborate effectively.

Lately, I came across news that the DCU “Brave and the Bold” film has been delayed since director Andy Muschietti is currently working on a different project. If Robert Pattinson becomes part of the DCU, it’s possible that “Brave and the Bold” will be scrapped and Andy Muschietti won’t be in charge.

As a passionate moviegoer, I must share that my anticipation for Keanu Reeves’ The Batman: Part II was significantly tested by its postponement yet again. Originally slated for 2026, the sequel is now scheduled to hit theaters on October 1, 2027.
