A new issue of Empire magazine features the first official covers and exclusive images from the upcoming Masters of the Universe movie, along with insights from director Travis Knight and star Nicholas Galitzine.
Starring Galitzine as Prince Adam/He-Man, the film hits theaters June 5, 2026.

“There’s an Inherent Silliness — And We Embrace It”
In the Empire interview, Knight doesn’t shy away from the franchise’s wild history.
He admits the project has a playful, even ridiculous side, and they’re fully leaning into that. He actually sees it as a strength, explaining that it’s deliberately built into the story to connect with today’s viewers. For example, a character might have an odd name, but the movie will eventually reveal the reason behind it.

He-Man With Soul, Not Just Muscle
Casting He-Man wasn’t about size, says Knight, it was about spirit.
“I wasn’t looking for a body,” he explains. “I was looking for a soul. I needed someone who had the spirit of this character, and could be funny and charming and heartbreaking and also plausibly a big action hero. Because there’s a duality there: Adam essentially represents empathy, He-Man represents strength.”

“Most difficult thing I’ve ever done”
Enter Nicholas Galitzine, who admits the transformation was intense.
He admits the actor’s incredible physique was intimidating to look at. He even jokes that the animated version was more impressive than Arnold Schwarzenegger in his prime. With only four or five months to prepare, getting into shape for the role was, in his opinion, the hardest thing he’s ever had to do – from the small waist to the massive shoulders, the proportions were demanding.
He adds that putting on the costume changed everything.
He explained that performing felt surprisingly natural and boosted his confidence. He compared it to filming intimate scenes, noting that he was usually more at ease than everyone else involved. He found wearing the costume to be a powerful experience.
