Where Winds Meet offers a wide range of skills, including movement techniques and mystical abilities. Many of these can be used effectively both during battles and while exploring the world, sometimes in ways that aren’t immediately apparent.
You’ll learn the Tai Chi mystic skill very early in the game. While the way you acquire it is a bit strange, it’s a useful ability that you’ll rely on throughout your entire journey.
So let’s take a look at the Tai Chi skill and just how best to utilise it.
Where to Learn Tai Chi
After you first open the map, you’ll notice a big golden flame. A large bear digging at a beehive is located just to the west of it. When you get close to the bear, a tutorial will begin, requiring you to press buttons at the right moment when golden rings light up.
You’ll find this happening in many places throughout the game, and it’s not limited to just the bear. For example, there’s an event close by where you can actually learn a fighting move from a goose – yes, a honking goose!
Okay, so once you finish that little mini-game, you’ve gotta use your Tai Chi move to chuck the bear into a bunch of rocks. Seriously, this Tai Chi attack does huge damage to bears, so forget about trying to fight them normally – just use this!
If you’re exploring and spot a bear, keep an eye out for piles of loose rocks nearby. These rocky areas often hide chests!
Out of Combat Uses
If you find a leaf-covered circle on the ground, you can use your Tai Chi skill to clear the leaves and earn a little experience. Also, performing this skill in water will make the fish jump.
This skill isn’t very useful outside of battles. It’s most effective when used against opponents.
How to Use Tai Chi in Combat
You’ve probably practiced the basic movements, but Tai Chi has much more to offer in a real fight. If someone defends with a shield, try spinning them around to break both their shield and their defense. It might take a few attempts, so don’t give up after just one try.
When dealing with multiple enemies, try throwing one to create some space. And if you’re on higher ground, don’t hesitate to push them off the edge!
Beware, this doesn’t work on Mighty Enemies, like main bosses.
Upgrading Tai Chi
Just like with Meridian Touch, you can improve this skill by going to the ‘Develop’ tab and scrolling down to ‘Mystic Skills’. Find Tai Chi, click ‘View’, and then click ‘Upgrade’.
Each time you improve this skill, you’ll inflict additional Dragging Damage and bonus damage that reduces enemy shields.
Upgrading costs 2 Ebon Iron each time until you reach a major milestone. Once you advance beyond Tier 1, each milestone will grant significant bonuses.
- Tier 2 Damage Enhancement: Increases Phase-Two Shield Breaker Damage by 20% on Weak Point Break.
- Tier 3 Strategy Enhancement: Reduces the target’s defence by 20% for 10 seconds after Weak Point Break.
- Tier 4 Damage Enhancement: Further increases Phase-Two Shield Breaker Damage by 30% on Weak Point Break.
