At the Sundance Film Festival, actress Maslany publicly showed her support for two causes by wearing pins on her clothing. One pin called for ending practices associated with ICE (‘ICE Out’), and the other expressed solidarity with ‘Artists for Ceasefire’.
The demonstration was one example of a larger trend: actors are increasingly using high-profile events like red carpets to raise awareness about issues such as immigration policies and the conflict in Gaza.
Maslany stated in an interview with Variety that the situation in Gaza continues to constitute genocide, and despite any proposed peace plans, Israel’s killing of Palestinians in Gaza and throughout Palestine persists.
She explained that it feels like a major shift is happening, with many people now understanding they’re all connected to and impacted by this issue – it’s not something anyone can distance themselves from.
Maslany Has a History of Speaking Out — Including Against Disney and Marvel
Tatiana Maslany has recently been acting in a way that shows increasing resistance, even towards the studio that helped make her famous.
The She-Hulk actress recently made news by dismissing online speculation about upcoming Marvel and Avengers movies, calling it simply “woke feminist content.”
That quote came shortly after the rumors that she won’t be appearing in Avengers: Doomsday.
I also noticed the backlash surrounding her urging followers to ditch Disney+ after the whole Jimmy Kimmel situation. It seems her support for cancelling subscriptions is getting a lot of attention, and rightly so, given the controversy.
I’ve been following this actor’s career and public statements closely, and I’m impressed by their willingness to speak out. They weren’t afraid to publicly challenge Disney’s CEO during the recent Hollywood strikes, which took real courage. Beyond that, I’ve consistently seen them use their platform to advocate for the rights of transgender children – a cause they clearly feel strongly about, and one that deserves more visibility.
