Marvel’s Ironheart Canceled, No Season 2

It looks likely that Ironheart has already been canceled and won’t be getting a Season 2.

Ironheart Season 2 Depends on Viewership, Says Writer

Head writer and series creator Chinaka Hodge says Ironheart Season 2 depends on viewership ratings.

Hodge told TV Line:

She noted that audiences will play a part in deciding what happens next, if there’s anything at all. So, I encourage everyone to tune in and demonstrate our dedicated fan base for Ironheart to both Disney and the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Three years ago, Ironheart was initially developed, but Disney and Marvel decided to put it on hold due to creative adjustments. These modifications allegedly involved re-filming scenes and editing the series.

Poor Viewership Numbers for Ironheart

Although the Nielsen ratings are not out yet, it appears that Ironheart is missing from the Luminate audience statistics. Much like Daredevil: Born Again, this could suggest that Ironheart might be experiencing low viewership numbers.

In contrast to other Marvel series on Disney+, Daredevil: Born Again did not make it onto the Nielsen ratings list, marking a first for a Marvel show in this regard.

Disney hasn’t publicly disclosed the number of viewers for Ironheart, and Samba TV has remained silent on reporting household viewership for it as well.

Daredevil: Born Again and Andor Comparison

Disney has been releasing episodes of Ironheart and Andor Season 2 in groups of three, much like how they’ve been distributing them for Andor Season 2. Interestingly, when you look at the average viewership per episode of Andor Season 2, it seems that if each episode were released separately, they might not have made it onto Nielsen’s charts.

The second season of “Daredevil: Born Again” is underway, however unlike “Ironheart,” produced three years ago during a time when Disney was heavily investing in billions for streaming content, this series has a significantly lower production cost.

Disney Cuts Budgets After Streaming Flops

As a result of Marvel series such as She-Hulk, Ms. Marvel, and Secret Invasion, along with Star Wars shows like The Acolyte, which didn’t meet expectations despite having budgets of $200 million each, Disney has decided to reduce spending and minimize the amount of content they produce.

The Acolyte Also Canceled After Poor Reception

The Acolyte has also been canceled and won’t be getting a Season 2.

The series also suffered from similar poor viewership and a controversial storyline.

Ironheart Budget Would Be Slashed for Season 2

If by some stroke of luck Ironheart manages to secure a second season, it’s highly probable that the budget will be reduced, much like what happened with Daredevil, Agatha, and Echo.

Fans Reject MCU’s Post-Endgame Direction

Beyond Loki, it seems that Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) fans are less enthused about Kevin Feige’s post-Endgame strategy, which prioritizes political aspects over storytelling, potentially leaving both the narrative and the audience trailing behind.

Ironheart Breaks Record for Worst Rotten Tomatoes Score

After the last three episodes have been aired, the audience rating for Ironheart on Rotten Tomatoes is currently the lowest among all MCU projects on Disney+, standing at 52%. This score falls below that of the previous record-holder, Secret Invasion, which had a 53% rating.
