Marvel’s Failed Design Choices: Kevin Feige’s Blunders Exposed

It’s been shown yet again that Kevin Feige may not fully grasp the comic book universe, or perhaps he’s made some questionable decisions regarding it.

From memory, it’s common knowledge that Feige declined to include screen-accurate portrayals of characters like Skaar and MODOK (as you can see further down). The design for the female Silver Surfer is rather unpleasant to look at as well.

Comic accurate look dropped

The initial concept art featuring Tim Blake Nelson as The Leader has recently been made available online, showcasing an authentic adaptation of the character in the upcoming comic book-inspired series, “Captain America: Brave New World.

The VFX company behind the design even says they were inspired by the comics.

However, the company says the creative direction changed and their version was ditched:

Initially, we were tasked with creating and applying the practical makeup for The Leader, played by Tim Blake Nelson, in Captain America: Brave New World. However, as is common in movie production, the script underwent changes during reshoots, leading to a shift in creative direction. Unfortunately, our specific concept didn’t make it into the final version of the film.

Still, we remain incredibly proud of the work we created.

Drawing inspiration directly from the original comic book illustrations, we aimed to create a style that felt authentic yet iconic – a balance between staying true to the source material and enhancing it with a more refined, realistic touch. The final makeup was not only technically impressive but also incredibly lightweight and comfortable for our actor to wear, thanks to the hard work and dedication of an exceptional team behind the scenes.

New look at The Leader in Captain America: Brave New World

A fresh depiction of Tim Blake Nelson as The Leader is now available, unveiled through the art book accompanying Captain America: Brave New World.

Many fans aren’t fond of it, but it certainly appears more suitable and consistent with the Marvel Cinematic Universe portrayal of the character.

Here is the cover:

Skaar in She-Hulk vs concept art:

Concerning Skaar, son of the Hulk, Kevin Feige chose to depict him with a quirky man bun rather than the tough appearance from the comic books, as portrayed in concept sketches.

MODOK in Quantumania vs concept art:

Instead of sticking to a more faithful representation from the comics that can be quite terrifying, Feige opted for a humorous approach when considering MODOK’s portrayal.

Silver Surfer in Fantastic Four vs 2007 FF:

In the forthcoming “Fantastic Four” movie, Feige has decided to change the gender of the Silver Surfer. However, some people think that the Silver Surfer was more appealing 20 years ago.
