Marvel’s 2028 Surprise: 4 MCU Movies?!

It’s rather unexpected, but Disney has slipped in a fourth unnamed Marvel Cinematic Universe film into its 2028 schedule on December 15, 2028.

So much for scaling back.

As a movie reviewer, I must admit, the rumors of Marvel taking a break on content production were quite intriguing. However, it appears that this brief pause might have been more of a strategic maneuver than a lasting change. Marvel Studios seems to be gearing up for another high-stakes game just one year after the anticipated release of “Avengers: Secret Wars” in December 2027, suggesting they’re ready to double down on their cinematic universe once again.

Moreover, this aligns with Feige’s recent statement that the “Era of Mutants” has commenced, implying that the X-Men will finally make their debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

MCU 2028 Release Dates

  • February 18, 2028
  • May 5, 2028
  • November, 10, 2028
  • December 15, 2028

Among the potential earlier release dates, it’s possible that one could shift to a December release this year, however, at present, it is confirmed that the Marvel Cinematic Universe will indeed have four films premiering in 2028.

Didn’t We Learn This Lesson in 2021?

Prior to the year 2021, Marvel had not unveiled four MCU films. However, in that year, they premiered “Black Widow”, “Shang-Chi”, “Eternals”, and “Spider-Man: No Way Home”. Needless to say, these releases caused quite a stir.

Feige’s post-“Endgame” strategy has unfortunately not been successful, as I recently discussed in relation to James Gunn’s comments on Marvel. Contrary to the common industry argument that an excessive amount of content for streaming services is causing the demise of numerous IPs and franchises, the real culprit is prioritizing agendas over storytelling.

So now Disney is releasing four MCU movies in 2028? Pretty ballsy, but not surprising from Disney.

What are the Marvel MCU 2028 releases?

Obviously, we don’t know what movies they are but we can guess.

Again per Feige, it seems one or maybe more will be X-Men.

It’s likely that the next film will be Black Panther 3, as it has been officially announced for release following Secret Wars.

Perhaps you could consider rephrasing as follows: Could there be a chance that you meant Blade? Since the original author found it quite straightforward to remember the name Blade.

I also wonder if one could be for Thor 5, also said to be happening.

How does X-Men, Black Panther 3, Blade, and Thor 5 sound for 2028?

Instead, I’d likely choose _X-Men_, _Black Panther_ 3, _Blade_, and an individual _Wolverine_ film. It is said that much like the comics, the Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe won’t be a member of the X-Men team when they initially appear within the MCU.

What about Shang-Chi 2, you might ask? 7 years after the first movie which massively bombed? Maybe.

Up next from the MCU

Marvel only has three (3.5) movies coming out from now until December 2027:

  • The Fantastic Four: First Steps: July 25, 2025
  • Spider-Man: Brand New Day (Sony): July 31, 2026
  • Avengers: Doomsday: December 18, 2026
  • Avengers: Secret Wars: December 17, 2027

It appears that the upcoming movies “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Secret Wars” could revitalize the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Given that there are four scheduled MCU releases in 2028 by Disney, they seem to be betting on this revival.
