As a big Marvel fan, I’m hearing some exciting news! It sounds like Marvel Studios is actually making a second season of Marvel Zombies, that awesome animated series that debuted on Disney+ last September. The info comes from Daniel Richtman, a pretty reliable source in the industry, who shared it on his Patreon page.
The initial season of Marvel Zombies was developed by Bryan Andrews and Zeb Wells, drawing inspiration from the Marvel Comics series it’s based on.
This show is a continuation of the alternate reality explored in the 2021 What If…? episode, “What If… Zombies?!” It focuses on a team of heroes battling to stay alive in a world filled with zombie versions of Marvel’s strongest characters.

The series boasted a star-studded voice cast including Iman Vellani, Florence Pugh, Hailee Steinfeld, David Harbour, Simu Liu, Awkwafina, and Elizabeth Olsen. Notably, it was the first animated Marvel Studios project to receive a mature rating, distinguished by its intense, darker themes and more violent action compared to other Marvel Cinematic Universe content.
The first season had four episodes and was part of the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe’s sixth phase. Although reviews were mixed – some viewers appreciated its innovative approach, while others thought it could have gone further – the show generated significant buzz for its unique style of animation and storytelling within the Marvel universe.
Marvel is reportedly moving forward with a second season of What If…?, meaning fans can look forward to revisiting the show’s unique and often dark alternate realities. While details like the storyline, which actors will return, and when it will be released are still unknown, the season is currently in the early stages of production.
Bryan Andrews directed and oversaw Marvel Zombies, with Zeb Wells leading the writing. The animation was done by Stellar Creative Lab, the studio that also worked on What If…?. It’s currently unclear whether the same people will be involved if the show gets a second season.
