As a seasoned gamer of Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movies, spanning over a decade of thrilling adventures and epic storylines, I must say that the Multiverse Saga has been quite a rollercoaster ride. The Infinity Saga was undeniably a game-changer in Hollywood history, but the Multiverse Saga, while maintaining Marvel’s high standards, has had its ups and downs.
The Infinity Saga, which spanned from the release of Iron Man in 2008 to Spider-Man: Far From Home in 2019, is one of the most remarkable stories in Hollywood history. Over a period of 11 years and 23 films, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) garnered unprecedented box office revenues and critical acclaim. However, its successor, The Multiverse Saga, hasn’t quite matched up. Despite being a massive hit, as evidenced by Deadpool & Wolverine’s billion-dollar earnings at the box office, it faced Marvel’s first commercial flop, and was perhaps overwhelmed by too much content all at once. As per Marvel’s Brad Winderbaum, who spoke to ScreenRant, the Multiverse Saga will not continue indefinitely like its predecessor. Avengers: Secret Wars, scheduled for release in 2027, will mark its conclusion.
It seems to me that’s what “Secret Wars” is likely to turn out as – a fantastic conclusion to the story, making the entire journey seem worthwhile.
It’s now been confirmed by Marvel that the upcoming film “Avengers: Secret Wars” will likely conclude the Multiverse Saga, following speculation that it would do so. The comics version of “Secret Wars” by Jonathan Hickman concluded the comic book iteration of the Multiverse, so it seems fitting for the MCU to follow a similar storyline. “Avengers: Secret Wars” will wrap up this phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which has been ongoing for less time than the Infinity Saga (three phases but spanning eight years in total), but includes more projects within it. As of now, there are 24 projects in this phase, with many more planned before “Secret Wars” hits theaters.
Following the release of “Avengers: Secret Wars,” and as yet undisclosed details about Robert Downey Jr.’s portrayal of Doctor Doom’s villainy, there are strong indications that the “Mutant Saga” may be next. This is because it’s anticipated that the X-Men will officially join the Marvel Cinematic Universe and take center stage. It’s unlikely that the Avengers brand will disappear entirely, given the vast array of Avengers merchandise and Disney theme park lands. However, it seems likely that we’ll see a significant increase in mutant appearances on screen during Phase 7 of Marvel Studios, as suggested by the title “Avengers: Secret Wars,” which is set to hit theaters in May 2027.
