Simu Liu, known for his role in Marvel films, has publicly backed Melissa Barrera to play Wonder Woman. He shared his enthusiastic support while discussing their upcoming movie, The Copenhagen Test.
Liu shared these thoughts while DC Studios is actively working on a Wonder Woman film for their new DC Universe, and there’s speculation that the character might also show up in the movie Man of Tomorrow.

Simu Liu Praises Melissa Barrera
In a YouTube interview with JoBlo, Liu praised Barrera’s performance during filming, especially her dedication to stunt work.
Liu praised his The Copenhagen Test co-star, saying she consistently challenges herself. He jokingly added that he hoped James Gunn, or anyone else who might be listening, would notice her dedication, and reiterated that she truly strives to improve.

Okay, so Liu was really impressed with Barrera – she said Barrera really committed physically to the role and just has this amazing presence on screen. Basically, she thinks Barrera has the power and intensity you need to really be that iconic DC hero. It sounds like she’s going to nail it!
He admitted that during stunt training, there were a few times when the experience felt very similar to what you’d expect from Wonder Woman. He jokingly mentioned the comparison as a thought he had.

Wonder Woman Movie Confirmed at DC Studios
James Gunn has already confirmed that a Wonder Woman movie is in development as part of the DCU.
Although the actors haven’t been chosen yet, this project will feature a different take on Wonder Woman (Diana Prince) than the one seen in the films starring Gal Gadot.

Rumors Point to Man of Tomorrow
There’s a new rumor suggesting James Gunn might include Wonder Woman in his upcoming film, Man of Tomorrow, possibly as a way to introduce her own standalone movie.
If the decision is made to replace actors, it needs to happen quickly, leading to rumors about who might be considered, such as Melissa Barrera.
DCU Development Status
Despite these plans, Gunn’s DCU slate appears largely paused.
Outside of Man of Tomorrow, no other DCU films are actively in production.
As a DC fan, I’m hearing that everything – the future of the DC Universe, really – seems to be hinging on whether Warner Bros. Discovery actually goes through with a sale. It’s a bit unsettling, because until that’s settled, it’s hard to know what’s next for the characters and stories we love.
It appears that James Gunn has also indefinitely delayed his previously announced Themyscira series, since taking over at DC.
