Marvel Skipping Comic-Con: Fantastic Four Flop Incoming?

For the first time in many years, Kevin Feige won’t be attending this summer’s San Diego Comic Con, an event that coincides with the release of “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” on July 25th.

Last year, it was me, a die-hard cinema enthusiast, who was left speechless when Marvel unveiled their grand plan at SDCC. They revealed that Robert Downey Jr., our beloved Iron Man, will be stepping into the role of Doctor Doom in the upcoming Avengers film titled “Avengers: Doomsday”.

Feige unveiled all the Doombots on stage, and lo and behold, it turned out that Robert Downey Jr. was hidden among them. This sent the internet into a frenzy.

This time around, The Hollywood Reporter reports that neither Feige nor Marvel Studios will be present at Comic-Con 2023, an event that coincides with the Thursday premiere screening of Fantastic Four.

In the latest email update from THR, they discuss that Feige and director Matt Shakman recently observed auditions for the upcoming movie, “Fantastic Four.

According to the information provided, Marvel held a clandestine showing of the movie “Fantastic Four: First Steps” at Regal Long Beach, with both Kevin Feige and director Matt Shakman in attendance.

As I’m part of the team working on the movie that’s currently in the final stages of post-production, with just eight weeks left, we’ve decided to include a post-credit scene (beware of spoilers). This move signifies a change in Marvel’s strategy, as they are now leveraging public test screenings.

Although the launch of Marvel Studios’ new project on July 25 happens at the same time as San Diego Comic-Con, they are choosing to forgo their traditional Hall H presentation this year – a move that hasn’t been made since 2018 and isn’t due to external factors like pandemics or strikes.

THR says:

Instead of test screenings, the movie “Fantastic Four” premieres on the Friday of San Diego Comic-Con this year. Unlike previous years, Marvel plans to deviate from their usual routine by skipping the sensational, thunderous Saturday evening panel in Hall H.

As a passionate movie enthusiast, I can’t help but notice the anticipation brewing among fellow fans regarding this year’s San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC). Although Marvel is expected to keep their presence robust with comics and other related content, the lack of a blockbuster movie panel, particularly following the epic Avengers: Doomsday unveiling last year, has sparked curiosity about the readiness and response to the upcoming Fantastic Four.
