As a seasoned Marvel enthusiast with over two decades of fandom under my belt, this latest montage is nothing short of a visual feast for the eyes! The nostalgia trip down memory lane, especially the archival footage of the legendary Stan Lee, was absolutely heartwarming.
Marvel didn’t debut Tony Stark, played by Robert Downey Jr., in 2008; rather, the iconic superhero company has a rich history that spans over eight decades. This year, Marvel is celebrating its 85th anniversary, and to commemorate this significant milestone at D23, they put together an emotional video retrospective covering their journey from early comic book days to becoming the world’s largest movie franchise. Disney has now made this video available for everyone to see. As we reflect on past achievements, our eyes are drawn towards the future, which this video tantalizingly hints at. It provides a sneak peek into upcoming MCU projects like Daredevil: Born Again, Ironheart, and an unconventional team of heroes in Thunderbolts. The video concludes with Harrison Ford transforming into the colossal crimson rage monster Red Hulk in Captain America: Brave New World.
Instead of merely enjoying this tribute for Stan Lee’s archived footage alone, it’s worth taking a look at the entire Marvel video. It includes thoughts from Kevin Feige and stars within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). What makes it even more thrilling is that it offers glimpses into what the future holds for the franchise.
Besides fresh glimpses into upcoming productions like “Captain America: Brave New World,” “Daredevil: Born Again,” and “Ironheart,” this promotional material also unveils the forthcoming “Thunderbolts” squad. They’re depicted in an elevator, either as a formidable team of superheroes or an impressively rock-inspired band. If they manage to embody both roles within the movie, we anticipate a staggering box office collection of 3 billion dollars and a quintuple platinum record album.
Despite the festivities, not all are enjoying themselves. The event concludes with President Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross unleashing his Red Hulk persona at the podium. Previously, we’ve caught glimpses of Harrison Ford morphing into the colossal red beast in Brave New World, but this scene presents a more straightforward transformation. It’s also the most effective, as it retains the beloved actor’s likeness should he have undergone a Hulk-like metamorphosis.
As a lifelong Marvel fan who grew up with these iconic characters, I can confidently say that if they were to create a video for their 170th anniversary, this stunning shot would not surprise me in the least. Over the past few decades, Marvel has consistently pushed the boundaries of storytelling and visual effects, and I have no doubt that they will continue to do so for another century. With their ever-expanding universe of characters and worlds, there’s always something new and exciting to look forward to from Marvel Studios. I can only imagine what kind of groundbreaking cinematic experiences await us in the future!
