Overwatch 2, a game I’ve invested countless hours into, is facing some turbulent waters. The emergence of Marvel Rivals, a seemingly unstoppable force, has left me, and many others, somewhat concerned.

Overwatch 2 encounters hurdles due to the rising fame of Marvel Rivals. While once being dismissed as a mere imitation by a former Blizzard president, Marvel Rivals has successfully drawn a vast community of gamers. Within its initial three days, it managed to gather more than 10 million players.

Overwatch 2’s player count has been affected by this recent trend, causing a significant decrease in the number of simultaneous players on Steam to reach a record low since its launch there. On the other hand, Marvel Rivals saw a peak of 480,990 concurrent players, which surpassed Overwatch 2’s highest player count ever recorded.

The trend extends to streaming platforms. At one point, Marvel Rivals had over 170,000 live viewers on Twitch, while Overwatch 2 had about 6,400.
