Marvel Television has temporarily halted the progress of three potential TV series: Nova, Strange Academy, and Terror, Inc. Though these shows were not officially verified, we’ve shared a lot about them in previous articles based on behind-the-scenes information and leaks. At present, it appears that they are not being developed further, but there’s still hope they may be revived at a later date.
The surprising news about ‘Nova’ is noteworthy, given that Winderbaum had expressed high praise for the show’s direction only a few months ago. This is worth noting because he acknowledged that the show was in its early stages of development and appeared to be progressing well.
Currently on hiatus, industry insider Lizzie Hill has disclosed some intriguing details about the character rumored to be the show’s antagonist.
As per Lizzie Hill’s inside information, it appears that the Nova series is likely to adhere to the initial concept shared by DanielRPK. This implies that the show will primarily focus on the Xandarians’ endeavors to reconstruct Xandar and the Nova Empire, which Thanos had destroyed in Avengers: Infinity War.
Furthermore, Hill clarified that Annihilus and the Annihilation Wave are joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), indicating that Annihilus won’t make just a brief appearance. This implies that Annihilus will likely have a substantial impact on the series, and could be a recurring antagonist in future MCU productions.
Lizzie Hill agrees with that assumption. Moreover, it’s been shared earlier by Dan that Annihilus and the Annihilation Wave are imminent, and they won’t just appear as a one-time antagonist.
To reiterate, please consider this data with significant skepticism, given that the series is, at present, not being actively produced.
The change in direction we’re witnessing is simply a larger evolution in Marvel’s approach towards television production. Contrasting with the past where series development mimicked movie production, with a majority of announced projects practically guaranteed for release, Marvel now adopts a more conventional TV development method. This new system involves the studio working on numerous concepts, not all of which will eventually air on screen.
It appears that the “Nova” series was the most advanced in development, with Sabir Pirzada set to pen the adaptation. Initially, the show aimed to center around Richard Rider, who is the sole remaining member of the Nova Corps.
Lately, the writer from Criminal Minds, Ed Bernero, had taken over as the showrunner instead of Pirzada. However, at this moment, the project is temporarily halted.
