Rumors suggest that Marvel is planning a new Punisher series, featuring Jon Bernthal reprising his role as Frank Castle, in the forthcoming Daredevil: Born Again series.
The rumor comes via Daniel RPK with no additional details known.
In the upcoming March release on Disney+, Bernthal resumes his role for the revamped “Daredevil: Born Again” series, a transformation we previously shared with you from its initial lighter, “She-Hulk”-like concept to one more in tune and gravitas-filled like the Netflix series.

Jon Bernthal only returning if they do Punisher right
If the speculation about The Punisher proves accurate, it appears Marvel intends to maintain the intense style that fans appreciate. Jon Bernthal himself has expressed reluctance to reprise his role if it’s going to be within the light-hearted universe of the MCU. Given that Bernthal is coming back, we can infer that Marvel Studios is treating the character appropriately.
Bernthal said the following back in 2021 prior to joining the MCU:
This character holds an incredibly profound and personal significance for me, striking a chord within me on multiple levels. He’s not just a character, but someone who has deeply touched my heart and permeated my very being. I feel an immense need to safeguard him.

As a fervent supporter, I can resonate with Bernthal’s sentiments. He expressed that The Punisher ought to retain its dark essence, and I’d eagerly reprise my role if the team manages to get it right.
The depth of darkness is crucial. Reducing this character’s intensity could be unfair to the character, every portrayal of the character, every comic book precedent, and the countless passionate fans of the character. This figure holds significant value for military personnel. As I mentioned earlier, it’s not a question of whether you can play the character; it’s about whether you can do it justice, and I am committed to doing it correctly.
I’m quite optimistic that the upcoming series surpasses the quality of Netflix’s The Punisher Season 2, as I found the first season impressive but the second left much to be desired.
Daredevil: Born Again premieres on Disney+ on March 4, 2025, with a nine-episode first season.
