Marvel MaXimum Collection Announced, With X-Men Arcade Online

The Marvel Maxximum Collection is heading to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam, bringing together 13 beloved classic Marvel games from arcades, consoles, and handheld systems in a single package.

Limited Run Games is teaming up with Marvel Games and Konami to release the collection soon, though a specific release date hasn’t been announced yet.

13 classic Marvel games across arcade, console, and handheld

Limited Run is offering the MaXimum Collection, a package that lets you experience the best versions of a game released on different systems. You can compare the original arcade game to its versions on home consoles and handheld devices.

The announcement revealed a total of 13 games will be included, but we’ve only seen a preview of some of them so far.

Here are the games Limited Run has called out in the reveal materials:

  • X-Men: The Arcade Game (Arcade)
  • Captain America and The Avengers (Arcade, Sega Genesis, NES)
  • Spider-Man/Venom: Maximum Carnage (SNES, Sega Genesis)
  • Venom/Spider-Man: Separation Anxiety (SNES, Sega Genesis)
  • Spider-Man/X-Men: Arcade’s Revenge (SNES, Genesis, Game Boy, Game Gear)
  • Silver Surfer (NES)

X-Men: The Arcade Game returns with online play

The biggest news is that X-Men: The Arcade Game is returning on today’s gaming systems! This version includes online multiplayer for up to six players and uses rollback netcode for a smoother online experience.

Modern features added to make the classics playable

Maximum Collection isn’t simply a list of old games. Limited Run is enhancing the experience by adding modern features and improvements throughout the collection, such as:

  • Rewind and save states (save anywhere)
  • Integrated cheats menu (like infinite lives, where supported)
  • Display options (including CRT/scanline filters)
  • A museum/archive with scans of box art, manuals, and vintage ads
  • A music player for the classic soundtracks

Release window and platforms

Marvel Maxximum Collection is available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam.

It’s currently labeled “Coming Soon,” with no price or release date announced yet.
