As a die-hard Marvel fan who’s been following the cinematic universe since its inception, I must say that the collaboration between Deadpool and Wolverine was nothing short of epic! The movie was a rollercoaster ride of action, humor, and Easter eggs that left me craving for more.
The globally screening film, “Deadpool & Wolverine,” starring Hugh Jackman as Wolverine and Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, was highly anticipated by many this year. This long-awaited on-screen duo finally materialized, leaving most fans content as the movie met their expectations.
Although many fans have already analyzed the Easter Eggs and cameos, the popular film remains intriguing because these elements continue to generate excitement. You’re likely aware that several iconic Marvel characters made cameo appearances in the movie, including some versions of Deadpool.
Among the latter, one weird variant appeared and he is by far the weirdest MCU character to date. He is, of course, Headpool, and based on what we know about Marvel’s future plans, there is a brilliant way to bring back Headpool to the MCU.
Headpool, the character voiced by Nathan Fillion, may not have been particularly useful in the climactic battle due to being just a flying decapitated head, but he remains one of the most beloved Deadpool variants from the film. His brief appearance was delightful and well-received by fans. Although Marvel Comics might not have grand plans for this character (except perhaps as a mascot), they possess an effective method to reintroduce him in future stories.
To clarify, Headpool originates from the “Marvel Zombies” dimension, first appearing in Marvel Zombies #3 (February 2006), which was co-created by Robert Kirkman and Sean Phillips. Although he’s had limited appearances in comic books, the MCU presents a fantastic chance to reintroduce this character.
To clarify, if you recall the “What If…?” series, it featured an episode centered around zombies, and this was loosely based on the Marvel Comics’ “Marvel Zombies” from an alternate universe. Although we can’t expect to see the return of that character within the already-aired episodes, it is worth mentioning that Marvel is currently developing a four-part miniseries called “Marvel Zombies,” which will further explore the storyline of the zombie universe within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
The release date for the series is yet unknown, possibly in 2025, but we can confirm that several characters will appear as zombies: Clint Barton (Hawkeye), Steve Rogers (Captain America), Emil Blonsky (Abomination), Ava Starr (Ghost), Wanda Maximoff (Scarlet Witch), Carol Danvers (Captain Marvel), Ikaris, and Okoye. Headpool isn’t included in the initial lineup, but given the popularity of the movie and the time left before airing, Marvel has the chance to reintroduce the character. The question is whether they will choose to do so or not.
