As a longtime Marvel enthusiast and comic book aficionado who has spent countless hours immersed in the rich tapestry of these iconic characters, I must say that I was genuinely surprised by the turn of events in “Marvel Zombies: Dawn of Decay”. The revelation that Groot, a character I’ve always admired for his simplicity and loyalty, is capable of defeating Thor, one of my all-time favorite Marvel superheroes, has certainly shaken up my understanding of the Marvel Universe.
In the expansive Marvel universe, Thor stands out as one of its most formidable figures. The Marvel Cinematic Universe bears this out, but delving into the comics reveals even more instances where Thor demonstrates his immense power. Time and again, he overcomes seemingly insurmountable odds, proving himself a force to be reckoned with, irrespective of who his adversary may be.
But Thor is not invincible, as you might understand! We have recently reported how Elizabeth Olsen said she believed Scarlet Witch could beat Thor, which many of our readers agreed with, and there were numerous instances in the comics where the God of Thunder lost a fight.
In the latest “Marvel Zombies: Dawn of Decay”, another Marvel character displayed the ability to outsmart and defeat none other than Thor. Can you guess who it was? Keep reading to uncover the answer!
The Marvel Zombies: Dawn of Decay series showcases an intriguing take on Marvel characters transformed into zombies, a point we emphasized in our previous report. Indeed, the latest issue, Marvel Zombies: Dawn of Decay #2, corroborates this assertion as even Thor falls prey to the alien virus and starts transforming into one of the undead.
The virus, originating from an extraterrestrial plant source, is what’s infecting us, brought to Earth by the tree-like alien named Groot. Unlike for Groot where it only caused a common cold, contact with this virus has resulted in individuals transforming into plant-like zombies, reminiscent of those seen in ‘The Last of Us’. Captain America was unfortunate enough to be the first victim, turning into a plant-zombie after Groot sneezed on him.
In this comic book, Captain America manages to bite Thor, causing him to transform into a zombie. It’s then that Groot steps in to help. He cleverly rigged Mjolnir, Thor’s hammer, to a big tank using vines. This means that when Thor calls for his hammer, he also summons the tank and ends up beneath it. Since becoming a zombie depletes Thor’s strength, the God of Thunder is left incapacitated, with Groot demonstrating once more that he can overcome even a god like Thor by using Mjolnir against him. Interestingly enough, this isn’t the first time such an event has occurred; Moon Knight also managed to do this earlier.
In addition, for fans of comic books, it’s worth noting that Groot could have overpowered Thor when in his Grootspace form. This extraordinary version of Groot was capable of consuming entire planets, emphasizing that he belongs to the select few characters who can challenge the God of Thunder. This fascinating detail is crucial and deserves mention.
