As a longtime fan of both comic books and superhero movies, I can’t help but be excited about the latest developments in the X-Men universe. Having grown up watching Bryan Singer’s X-Men movies, I have fond memories of the iconic cast of mutants that graced our screens. However, one aspect of those early films that always left me wanting was their costumes.
Growing up, many of us have been fans of the X-Men films produced by Fox Studios. With the upcoming releases of Deadpool and Wolverine marking the end of this era, the mutants are joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) under the guidance of Kevin Feige. In an intriguing turn of events, Feige has recently shared some fascinating insights about a unique aspect from the cherished X-Men movie stories.
The X-Men films directed by Bryan Singer brought several iconic mutant characters to life for audiences, yet left some viewers with a lingering complaint: the costumes.
Kevin Feige reveals why previous X-Men movies did not have comic-accurate suits
In the year 2000, I discovered Bryan Singer’s groundbreaking introduction to the world of mutants for the very first time. It was then that Hugh Jackman’s portrayal of Wolverine captured my attention, a role he continues to embody with passion and commitment.
In the past X-Men movie adaptations, almost everything was nearly flawless. However, the costumes continue to be a hot topic among dedicated Comic Book Movie fans. Unlike in the original comics, X-Men wore black leather suits which had an elegant feel but fell short of accurately representing their comic book appearances.
Kevin Feige, acknowledged as a co-producer for the initial X-Men film released in 2000, recently disclosed the reason behind this choice and discussed how a significant Hollywood movie influenced X-Men’s costumes.
As an obsessed fan, I was on cloud nine during the recent Deadpool and Wolverine press conference when Kevin Feige shared an intriguing piece of information. He revealed that The Matrix had left a profound impact on those behind the scenes of the movie. So much so, it influenced their choice regarding Deadpool’s costume, according to Screen Rant.
During the conference, Kevin Feige mentioned that since studio executives were in charge and they knew both “The Matrix” was a major success and featured black leather costumes, they decided to dress the team in black leather as well.
The Marvel Studios films excel in delivering authentic costume designs based on comics.

Costumes in Marvel Studios films
In the MCU’s gradual introduction of mutants, their costumes bear a strong similarity to those depicted in the comics.
Although we didn’t get to see Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine in his comic book costume in the movies up until now, and with the disappointment of Logan being the last installment, the newest Marvel film has turned out to be a pleasant surprise instead.
In addition, both Sir Patrick Stewart as Professor X and Kelsey Grammer as The Beast in “The Marvel’s” series bore a striking resemblance to their comic book versions.
Marvel pays equal attention to detail in the costumes of not only the X-Men but also characters like Moon Knight and Black Bolt – proof that their comic book outfits are faithfully brought to life on screen.
Deadpool & Wolverine will be released in theaters this Friday.
