Marvel Studios has moved the releases of Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars to late 2026 and 2027 respectively, as part of their tactical reshuffling. Initially planned for a release on May 1, 2026, Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has opted to give that sought-after date to The Devil Wears Prada 2 instead.
The epic movie “Avengers: Doomsday” is set to premiere in theaters on December 18, 2026. Its sequel, titled “Secret Wars”, has been rescheduled and will appear on the big screen a day earlier, specifically on December 17, 2027 – moving away from its original May 2027 release date.
The shift in the schedule suggests a more significant reorganization of Disney’s release plan, details of which were unveiled on Thursday alongside the termination of multiple unnamed Marvel films that were planned for production.
Under the guidance of MCU veterans, the Russo Brothers, and the much-awaited comeback of Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, this movie marks one of Marvel’s most daring ventures yet. Both Secret Wars and Doomsday are proving to be two of Marvel’s most challenging productions so far.
As reported by Variety, Disney CEO Bob Iger stated that Marvel may have become somewhat scattered by producing an excessive amount of content, both for movies and Disney+ series. He further explained that by streamlining a bit and having Marvel concentrate more on their films, they anticipate this will lead to improved quality.
Disney’s Marvel Studios has cancelled previously planned films set for release on February 13, 2026, November 6, 2026, and November 5, 2027, and instead labelled them as “Untitled Disney” movies. Currently, only Avengers: Doomsday and Spider-Man: Brand New Day are confirmed for release in 2026, with Fantastic Four: First Steps due on July 25. This gap between Marvel films is the longest we’ve had since the pandemic.
As a lifestyle expert, I’m excited to share an update about the Marvel Cinematic Universe! Instead of its typical May debut, Disney has decided to fill the void on May 1st this year with the release of the Meryl Streep-led film. The anticipated Avengers: Doomsday will now grace our screens on December 18, 2026, while the highly anticipated Avengers: Secret Wars will follow closely on December 17, 2027. So mark your calendars, fellow Marvel enthusiasts!
