Marvel and Disney Bring Alien’s Horror to WEBTOON

Webtoon is expanding its roster by bringing on board another high-profile character. Previously, it introduced digital versions of Spider-Man and Star Wars comics, and now, in collaboration with Disney and Marvel, it will present the Alien series to its users.

Collider reports that the new series will go live tonight at 8 p.m. ET.

This new release follows the continuation of the comic book series “Alien: Bloodlines,” which made its debut in 2021 within the Marvel universe. The narrative unfolds post-“Aliens,” directed by James Cameron, and delves deeper into the terrifying sci-fi horror world that Ridley Scott established in the initial film. A key character of the story is Gabriel Cruz, a former worker for the Weyland-Yutani corporation.

In a past encounter, Cruz fought against the Xenomorph and miraculously survived. Now in retirement, he intends to rekindle his relationship with his son, aided by an android reminiscent of Bishop. However, old adversities resurface promptly, leaving him to discover that his family might not evade the dread he believed he had left in the past.

The project was launched, backed by 20th Century Studios. It’s penned by Philip Kennedy Johnson, an experienced writer who’s collaborated with both DC and Marvel. The artwork is attributed to Salvador Larroca, renowned for his work on X-Men. According to Collider, a sneak peek displays Gabriel in a nerve-wracking scene amidst peril as the Xenomorph approaches.

This move is another milestone in Disney’s strategy with WEBTOON, aimed at delivering its tales to a fresh digital readership. Not only Marvel and Star Wars, but also adaptations of Disney’s timeless movies will be part of this deal. Approximately 100 stories are projected to appear on the platform over the next few years.

On WEBTOON, an alien makes its appearance, offering fans a fresh perspective on the franchise, now accessible via mobile devices and designed for easy scrolling. Starting tonight, you can catch this exciting new series on the English version of the app.
