Martin Short, known for his role in “Only Murders in the Building,” tragically lost his daughter, Katherine, on February 24, 2026. As a result, Martin Short canceled his upcoming comedy show, “The Best of Steve Martin and Martin Short,” with performances in Milwaukee and Minneapolis being called off.

Martin Short’s family confirms daughter Katherine’s demise

The family of Katherine Hartley Short, age 42, has confirmed her passing, according to a statement to TMZ. They are deeply saddened by her loss and have asked for privacy during this difficult time. Katherine was loved by everyone and will be remembered for her kindness and the happiness she brought to others.

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve always admired people dedicated to helping others, and Katherine Short was certainly one of those individuals. Based in Los Angeles, she was a passionate social worker, and a proud graduate of both NYU, where she earned her bachelor’s degree, and USC, where she completed her master’s in social work. She dedicated her career to working with non-profit organizations, making a real difference in people’s lives. Katherine, along with her brothers Henry and Oliver Patrick – both adopted, just like her – came from a loving family. Sadly, their mother, Nancy Dolman, passed away in 2010 after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer, after a wonderful thirty-year marriage to Martin Short, beginning in 1980.

After the sad news, Martin Short has postponed his shows in Milwaukee and Minneapolis this Friday and Saturday. Event organizers cited “unforeseen circumstances” and haven’t announced when those shows will be rescheduled.
