Martha Stewart Mistakenly Declares Journalist Dead in Netflix Documentary, Reporter Fires Back: ‘I’m Alive’

As a lifestyle expert with a keen eye for the nuances of public figures, I must say that Martha Stewart‘s latest documentary serves as an intriguing glimpse into her tumultuous journey, especially the trials and tribulations she faced during her legal battles. However, the controversial statement about Andrea Peyser being dead has certainly overshadowed the otherwise captivating narrative.

In her new documentary set to stream on Netflix starting October 30, 2024, Martha Stewart, previously embroiled in a high-profile insider trading scandal in 2004, asserts that Andrea Peyser, a journalist who played a significant role in the media frenzy portraying her negatively, has passed away.

In a heartfelt relief, the 83-year-old media figure expressed, “Thank goodness, she’s deceased now.” Netflix’s documentary, Martha, delves into some of Stewart’s most challenging periods, including her legal struggles and time spent in prison. However, this particular statement generated notice, for it was factually inaccurate. In the documentary, Stewart referred to Peyser as ‘the New York Post lady.’

She remarked, “The woman from The New York Post was present, exuding a sense of satisfaction throughout the trial due to her harsh writings. Regrettably, she’s no longer alive, which is a relief. Now, we no longer have to endure the constant barrage of her content.

Andrea seems to respond to Stewart’s remarks due to the deep-seated rivalry between them that dates back to 2004, when Stewart faced trial for lying to the FBI during an insider trading investigation. Peyser, a New York Post columnist since 1989, was assigned to cover this trial and its peculiarities, which he did by publishing several highly critical articles about the case and its key figures.

On November 7th, an article penned by Peyser was released as a reaction to Stewart, entitled, “Martha Stewart, you celebrated the demise of a Washington Post journalist; however, I’m the one who’s still here, Martha!

Upon discovering Martha’s assertions, Peyser was caught off guard and promptly presented her perspective on the matter. Yet, a sense of melancholy lingers since Stewart continues to harbor bitterness.

Instead of being filled with anger or concern over Martha’s actions towards me, requiring an immediate protective order perhaps, I’m overwhelmed by a deep sadness at the bitter attitude she seems to harbor towards me.

In the documentary, Martha meticulously traced the sequence of significant incidents in Stewart’s career journey, highlighting her rise to prominence in the corporate world, building an extensive media conglomerate, encountering legal issues, and eventually re-emerging as a celebrated figure.
