Mark Wahlberg To Star In A New Comedy Flick After The Family Plan? Here’s What Report Says

As a dedicated follower of Hollywood, I can’t help but feel a thrill of anticipation at the news that Mark Wahlberg and Apple are teaming up once again for another heartwarming project – Weekend Warriors. Having witnessed Wahlberg’s exceptional performances in various genres, I have no doubt that he will bring his A-game to this film.

Following the triumph of “The Family Plan,” Mark Wahlberg is joining forces with Apple once more. As reported by Deadline, Apple Original Films has acquired the rights for an upcoming movie titled “Weekend Warriors” in a fierce bidding war. This upcoming film will be penned and helmed by Stephen Chbosky.

The project is currently being developed at an initial stage, with production handled by both Plan B Entertainment and The SpringHill Company, in collaboration with Apple Studios. This narrative draws inspiration from the 2023 German movie, “Weekend Rebels,” which itself is based on real-life events.

A 2023 German movie tells a heartwarming tale of a father and his autistic child, who’s passionate about following every team in his beloved soccer league. In contrast, the upcoming American adaptation will change the sport from soccer to basketball, showcasing LeBron James’s SpringHill Company’s influence on the narrative.

The adjustment is intended to make the movie resonate better with U.S. viewers. Given his past acting roles in “Trainwreck” and “House Party,” it’s possible that James himself could be featured in the film. As of now, the complete list of actors involved has not been revealed yet.

Later on, Wahlberg and Chbosky got involved in the project following a sneak peek of the movie at a WME talent gathering. The production is slated to be handled by Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner from Plan B Entertainment, as well as Spencer Beighley, LeBron James, and Jamal Henderson from SpringHill Productions.

Maverick Carter, one of the founders at SpringHill, is set to take on an executive producer role, collaborating with Michelle Wilens for this upcoming project. Moreover, production for the movie will also be supported by Wiedemann & Berg Film, the team behind the original German film adaptation.

The German adaptation of the movie garnered a variety of opinions, earning an average rating of 7.1 out of 10 on IMDb. It’s crucial for Weekend Warriors to depict autism accurately and steer clear of the missteps that other films have faced, being criticized for their portrayal of autism.

As a devoted collaborator, I’m thrilled to be part of the team for “Weekend Warriors,” our second joint venture with Apple Original Films. Following the incredible success of “The Family Plan,” which reigned supreme as the most-watched movie on Apple TV+, we’re excited to continue this fruitful partnership and create another unforgettable cinematic experience together.

Recently, Wahlberg starred in the Netflix action comedy The Union, which quickly made it into Netflix’s Top 10 list. He also has upcoming projects, including the Lionsgate thriller Flight Risk and the Amazon MGM Studios film Play Dirty. Currently, he is filming the Peter Farrelly comedy Balls Up for Amazon MGM and Skydance.
