Margot Robbie Says a Fellow Actor Handed Her a Book About Eating Less

I was listening to Margot Robbie talk about something that happened early in her career, and it really struck a chord with me. She was chatting with Charli XCX and they were discussing the worst gifts they’d ever gotten, and Margot immediately remembered this one co-star who handed her a copy of that book, Why French Women Don’t Get Fat. Can you believe it? It was basically him telling her she needed to lose weight, disguised as a gift! She said she was totally stunned and her reaction was a pretty direct ‘Whoa, f— you, dude!’ Looking back, she said it was just a really weird and inappropriate thing for a colleague to do – suggesting she didn’t fit a certain physical ideal. It’s just…wow. It really highlights the pressures actors face, doesn’t it?

Robbie shared a story about a past encounter with an actor, but kept his identity a secret. She doesn’t know what happened to him, and her interviewer, Charli XCX, playfully suggested his career was finished.

Robbie found the story amusing, especially remembering how someone thought giving her a weight loss book was a good idea. As of February, it’s clear she’s proven them wrong, remaining a major star in Hollywood.

She’s currently promoting her new film, Wuthering Heights, which comes out this Friday, February 13th. This fresh take on the classic story is directed by Emerald Fennell and stars Robbie as Catherine Earnshaw and Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff.

I’m really excited about this new take on Wuthering Heights – it’s being described as modern and quite sensual, which sounds fantastic! Plus, the cast is amazing, with Hong Chau and Shazad Latif joining the team. It’s cool to see Margot Robbie not just starring, but also producing through her company, LuckyChap Entertainment.

She clearly has a great working relationship with Emerald Fennell – they’ve already made Promising Young Woman and the incredibly popular Saltburn together. But Robbie isn’t slowing down! She just finished A Big Bold Beautiful Journey with Colin Farrell, which came out at the end of 2025. And there’s a lot of talk about her potentially working on a The Sims movie and a new Ocean’s Eleven prequel – with Ryan Gosling, no less! She’s definitely one of the most interesting people to watch in Hollywood right now.
