Margot Robbie has quickly become a major star in Hollywood, with memorable roles in films like I, Tonya, Suicide Squad, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and Babylon. She recently gained even more recognition playing Barbie in the popular 2023 film directed by Greta Gerwig.
One of Margot Robbie’s first big roles was in ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’ when she was only 22. She says working with Leonardo DiCaprio was an amazing chance, but some of the scenes were really nerve-wracking to film.
Margot Robbie discussed a scene from the film with IndieWire where her character playfully and sensually interacts with her husband while he secretly films her with a hidden camera inside a teddy bear. She described the character’s actions as essentially a form of self-stimulation.
She confessed she was secretly worried about the scene, explaining it would be even more uncomfortable to watch than the explicit scene at the end, and that it would be very awkward.
Robbie recently discussed with Porter Magazine how uncomfortable it was to film the movie’s intimate scenes with a large film crew present. She explained that despite how it appears on screen, the scenes were shot in a small space packed with around 30 people – all men. She had to pretend to be intimate for long hours, and found the whole experience bizarre, requiring her to push past her embarrassment and fully commit to the role.
The actress also talked about a previous intimate scene in the film, before Jordan physically assaults Naomi. “We really aimed to make it the most heartbreaking and upsetting sex scene possible,” Robbie explained. “We wanted it to feel deeply uncomfortable and tragic, highlighting how oblivious he was to her disgust.”
She described the scene as illustrating a dysfunctional relationship where Jordan is fixated on Naomi, and Naomi exploits that to control him. “They’re both engaged in unhealthy and manipulative behavior, intentionally trying to upset each other,” she explained.
