Nightfall Reign”, offers a unique and innovative twist on their acclaimed open-world Soulslike game, “Elden Ring“. Instead of the traditional open-world setting, this spin-off uses the assets in a procedurally generated, run-based environment where enemies, equipment, and architecture are dynamically mixed to create a randomized map. This map can be explored by solo players or teams of three across two in-game days, with each day ending in a boss fight. The third day is dedicated to battling a Nightlord selected at the start of the run. While it may seem straightforward, “Nightfall Reign” promises to be anything but ordinary.
In the network test for Elden Ring Nightreign, while a single map with slight variations didn’t fully demonstrate its functionality, it did show that great care is being taken to ensure each playthrough feels unique. The distinctive player characters in Nightreign, who will have story elements that encourage investment, should significantly alter the experience. However, the real standout feature is the enemies. Elden Ring is providing Nightreign with numerous monsters, and even the Dark Souls trilogy is contributing to this mix. Yet, an already familiar returning boss from Elden Ring might outshine this exciting collaboration in the end.
Elden Ring’s Margit Already Has Nightreign Players’ Attention
Margit’s Existing Fame Is Poised To Grow In Nightreign
In Elden Ring, certain bosses are deeply connected to the game’s unique character, and none embody this connection more powerfully than Margit, the Fell Omen. This formidable adversary welcomes Tarnished at the gates of Stormveil Castle in one of Elden Ring’s early cutscenes, serving as the first significant challenge players will encounter while advancing through the game’s main quest. Featuring a second phase and voice-acted taunts, Margit has consistently left a lasting impact since Elden Ring’s previews were released. Even without multiple encounters, FromSoft made sure that Margit, the Fell Omen, would be unforgettable.
In the game Elden Ring, Margit has already become one of the standout bosses and characters due to his intriguing story twists and unique characteristics. However, Nightreign’s appearance promises to make Margit even more prominent. Although Margit’s return was hinted at in early previews, players were not fully prepared for how he would reappear. Previously, FromSoftware had explored the concept of recurring “hunter” bosses, with The Pursuer from Dark Souls 2 being a notable example. However, these bosses were typically confined to specific battle arenas. Margit was a mild demonstration of this in Elden Ring, but Nightreign is already elevating him to be the new standard-bearer for this type of character.
Margit Complements Elden Ring Nightreign’s Format Perfectly
In the game Elden Ring Nightreign, those “hunter” bosses, who have always been legendary in their lore, finally get to prove it. Margit is the first such boss to make an appearance. Based on his storyline of eliminating Tarnished seeking the Elden Ring, Margit may unexpectedly show up during a game session, focusing his aggression on one player, a level rarely seen even in FromSoftware bosses. Defeating this boss, called The Fell Omen due to his use of abilities from both his Margit and Morgott personas in Elden Ring, rewards all players with a strong advantage. However, if the target dies during the battle, the unfortunate player will carry a penalty throughout the rest of their gameplay.
Elden Ring Nightreign Is Ensuring That Margit Stands Out
In Elden Ring Nightreign, Margit, the Fell Omen, stands out as one of its most formidable threats. He can appear at any time, and while Day 2 seems to be favored, other field boss arenas are equally valid, including caves or ravines. This versatility sets him apart from his peers. Interestingly, Margit could also potentially be a Day 2 boss with an exclusive second phase in Nightreign. This duality promises that Margit will make an even more significant impact in Elden Ring Nightreign than he did in his initial, already spectacular appearance.
