‘Man of Tomorrow’ May Be Adding a New Female Lead—Wonder Woman Speculated

James Gunn is developing the DC Universe further with his new movie, Man of Tomorrow.

The director has announced that the upcoming movie, scheduled for release on July 9, 2027, will prominently feature Superman, but it won’t be a continuation of the 2025 Superman film. James Gunn explained that the story will give equal attention to both Superman and Lex Luthor, who will team up to combat a larger danger. Brainiac will be the primary villain. Production is expected to start in Atlanta in April 2026.

According to industry source Daniel Richtman, the movie is searching for a prominent new female character, and the studio is looking at young actresses in their 20s for the part. Although some fans believe the character might be Wonder Woman, James Gunn has stated that no one has been cast yet. Popular suggestions from fans include Jaimie Alexander, Adrianne Palicki, Ana de Armas, Adria Arjona, and Alexandra Daddario.

Besides the movie, James Gunn is developing TV series centered around characters from the film. One series, focusing on Jimmy Olsen, is planned for HBO Max. Announced in November 2025, it will be written and produced by Dan Perrault and Tony Yacenda. The show will follow Olsen and his colleagues at the Daily Planet as they investigate supervillains, with Gorilla Grodd as the main threat in the first season. Another spin-off featuring Mister Terrific is also being considered.
