Filming for the third season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is now complete, Amazon has announced.
I was so excited to see a quick promo video pop up on the show’s X account! It’s the first real hint that the next season is actually coming, and it got me really hyped!

I’m so excited for the new season! It picks up the story in Middle-earth’s Second Age, and it’s all about the escalating conflict between the Elves and Sauron. It looks like things are really heating up!
The story picks up several years after the events of season two. Sauron is now actively trying to forge the One Ring, hoping it will give him the power to win the war and dominate Middle-earth.
Season production is a collaboration between Amazon MGM Studios and New Line Cinema. J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay are back as the show’s creative leads. Charlotte Brändström, Sanaa Hamri, and Stefan Schwartz will each direct several episodes. The writing team includes Payne, McKay, and Justin Doble, along with Ben Tagoe, Ava Wong Davies, Constance Cheng, Jonathan Wilson, Griff Jones, and Sarah Anson.
The third season has been a long time coming. Amazon bought the rights to the show back in 2017 with plans for multiple seasons, and writing was already started by late 2024. Amazon officially announced the new season earlier this year, and filming took place in the UK between May and October.
Several familiar faces are returning for the new season, including Cynthia Addai-Robinson as Míriel, Robert Aramayo as Elrond, and Morfydd Clark as Galadriel. Joining them are returning cast members Ismael Cruz Córdova, Trystan Gravelle, Lloyd Owen, Charlie Vickers, Benjamin Walker, and Daniel Weyman.
The third season will introduce some new characters, including Jamie Campbell Bower as Arlen, a described as a handsome knight who may become a love interest for Galadriel. Eddie Marsan will also appear in a recurring role, known only as Dromm.
The actor’s use of a Scottish accent has led fans to speculate about a possible connection to the Dwarves in the show. As filming began, more actors joined the cast, including Andrew Richardson, Zubin Varla, and Adam Young. While Varla previously provided voice work for the show’s second season, it’s currently unknown if that role is related to his new on-screen part.
