The horror film It Follows is truly excellent, and many consider its opening scene to be one of the best ever. While the ending left audiences wanting more, a sequel wasn’t necessarily needed. However, in 2023, news of a sequel began to surface, though updates were scarce for two years. Recently, in an October 2025 interview, Maika Monroe revealed that the script is complete and outstanding, with plans to potentially begin filming in 2026.
Monroe hinted that a new project might happen next year, telling Decider that while everyone involved has been busy with other commitments, the script is fantastic and worth pursuing. She believes fans will love it and expressed hope that it will come to fruition, saying, ‘Fingers crossed!’
David Robert Mitchell, the writer and director of the first film, is writing the script for the It Follows sequel. In the original movie, Jay, played by Monroe, was haunted by a mysterious entity after her first sexual encounter, but she survived. The sequel shows a figure following Jay and Paul, leaving fans wondering how their story will continue. Hopefully, the script will be fantastic and production will begin in 2026.
