MAGIC: THE GATHERING Unveils 9 New Commander Precon Decks

Magic: The Gathering has been releasing fantastic sets recently, inspired by popular franchises like Avatar: The Last Airbender and Fallout. They plan to continue this trend into 2026. In December, they revealed upcoming Commander sets featuring characters from The Fantastic Four, The Thunderbolts, and more. At the Nuremberg Toy Fair, Magic previewed nine new Commander decks that will be released between the Marvel Super Heroes set in June and the Secrets of Strixhaven set in April. Adding these to the three previously announced sets brings the total to twelve exciting new decks players can look forward to in 2026. Here’s a closer look at what’s coming.

Magic: The Gathering | Marvel Super Heroes Includes Four Decks

The initial look at this collaboration in December gave us a clear picture of what to expect. The release is being called an “epic crossover” featuring iconic characters, strong powers, and the exciting feel of comic books. It includes many new cards, with characters like Mr. Fantastic, The Sentry, Quicksilver, and Doctor Doom taking center stage – and that’s just a small sample! GameSpot detailed the four Marvel Super Hero decks as follows:

  • Avengers Assemble (white-blue-red) – Captain America and Nick Fury featured with “grow your ranks” and “equipment and counters” noted as the core mechanics
  • Wakanda Forever (white-green) – Black Panther headlines with a focus on powering up with artifacts and “reign as the Monarch”
  • The Fantastic Four (white-blue-red-green) – All four team members can play as the Commander in a deck emphasizing “noncreature spells” and “protection fields”
  • Doom Prevails (blue-black-red) – Doctor Doom headlines with Loki as a presumable alternate Commander with “connive for power” and “drain life” as core mechanics

The upcoming Magic: The Gathering and Marvel Super Heroes collaboration will be released on June 26, 2026. You can preview some of the new cards in our gallery.

Magic: The Gathering | Secrets of Strixhaven Brings 5 Decks

As a huge movie buff, I’m always excited about world-building, and it feels like Magic: The Gathering is doing something similar! Before we see the big superhero showdowns in the multiverse, they’re releasing five new Commander decks based on Secrets of Strixhaven. Basically, they’re letting you become a student at a magical school, and each deck represents one of the five different colleges within it. Here’s a quick rundown of what you can expect from each one…

  • Lorehold Spirit (white-red) – Commander: Quintorius, Strategy: Create Spirits as cards leave your graveyard, and then buff them in order to deal massive damage.
  • Prismari Artistry (blue-red) Blue/Red – Commander: Rootha, Strategy: Cast powerful and expensive spells, while also creating massive Elementals with each cast.
  • Quandrix Unlimited (blue-green) – Commander: Zimone, Strategy: Flood the board with fractals, hydras, and other creatures with variable stats and pummel the opponent.
  • Silverquill Influence (white-black) – Commander: Killian, Strategy: Use Auras and other enchantments to make opposing creatures fight each other while you draw cards and grow more powerful.
  • Witherbloom Pestilence (black-green) – Commander: Dina, Strategy: Create pests and strategically sacrifice them to gain life, draw cards, and drain your opponent before they can react.

Magic: The Gathering | Secrets of Strixhaven arrives April 24, 2026.

Both the new sets will include standard booster packs for playing, collector boosters, and special bundles. The Secrets of Strixhaven set features a Codex Bundle with six regular boosters, two collector boosters, and a special two-card pack. The Marvel Super Heroes set offers a gift bundle containing a collector booster, a promotional card with unique artwork, play boosters, foil lands, and a spindown die. Additionally, two themed boxes, ‘Heroes United’ and ‘Villains Unleashed’, will be available for the Marvel Super Heroes set.
