Maggie Wheeler, who played the beloved character Janice on Friends, shared a deep bond with her co-star Matthew Perry after his passing in October 2023. In an interview, she discussed how Perry’s demise held a personal significance for her, as she had lost her own brother to drug addiction as well.

During an interview on Steve Kmetko’s podcast “Still Here in Hollywood”, Wheeler expressed that it seemed to her like the deceased actor appeared to her in the guise of a bird.

Starting off the discussion, she shared her feelings about Perry’s demise, saying, “His passing touched everyone. People worldwide who adored him as Chandler, who received happiness from his exceptional acting skills and constant humor, were all affected. The impact – it spread like a wave across many.

As a devoted fan, I can tell you, I personally felt utterly devastated and sorrowful, knowing he was trapped in such an endless, oppressive darkness for far too long.

Wheeler expressed her belief in the idea that spirits manifest as birds. Expounding on this thought, the actress stated, “Many people speak of spirits appearing as birds… After my brother passed away, I was in a neighbor’s pool by myself, and there wasn’t anyone else around. I was lying on my back, thinking about my brother, and said, ‘Watch over him.’ Subsequently, two hawks circled above me and flew past.

The actress stated the moment to be “beautiful.” 

During the 1994 sitcom, Janice, portrayed by Wheeler, consistently appeared as a character throughout the show’s ten seasons. In the early seasons, she was depicted as Chandler’s love interest. However, she became particularly famous for her peculiar laughter.

Meanwhile, Matthew Perry passed away in October 2023 due to an overdose of ketamine.
