Machine Gun Kelly Opens Up About Family’s Legal Troubles Over Grandfather’s Death

As an ardent admirer of Machine Gun Kelly, delving into his personal life story has been nothing short of a profound journey. His tale is a testament to resilience, survival, and the transformative power of art. Born into a family that traversed the globe, his upbringing was anything but ordinary, yet it seems to have instilled in him an indomitable spirit that has propelled him to the heights of fame and success.

Machine Gun Kelly discusses his challenging childhood and a pivotal event that significantly impacted his life, shared by the musician-rapper who was born Colson Baker. He also revealed that these personal experiences serve as a powerful inspiration for his deep-seated love of music.

As a lifestyle expert, I recently delved into the personal journey of MGK during an engaging conversation with Bunnie XO on the Dumb Blonde podcast. This heartfelt discussion was shared with the world on August 5th. In it, MGK opened up about the early traumas his late father experienced and how these events shaped his upbringing. He recounted, “As a child, I often felt frustrated with him because if I made a sudden noise or startled him, he would react so strongly, almost to an extreme degree.”

At that moment, he seemed to remember thinking, “Why are you behaving so unmanly, friend? This is making me dislike you.” The situation also brought to mind a child standing trial for the killing of his father at such a young age.

In front of MGK’s father and grandmother, he explained that his grandfather accidentally discharged a gun, causing his head to explode almost entirely. The authorities later discovered the shotgun hidden under the bed. After standing trial, both his father and grandmother were acquitted of any wrongdoing. The 34-year-old rapper later shared that his grandfather had a dissociative identity disorder and that schizophrenia was prevalent in that part of their family history.

In his own words, the singer of Blood Valentine stated, “I’ve tackled many challenges, and I believe I’ve given the impression that I have the resilience to handle the trials of fame, criticism, and hostility.” He further explained that, much like he wished his father to be strong and unyielding, able to brush off adversity, he too stood up to every obstacle he faced. This included facing “all the hurts” that came his way. He also admitted, “I never understood why he was so guarded. But let me tell you, I’m weary, and beneath my quiet exterior, I’ve got a troubled, vulnerable, and broken kid inside.”

Raised as the child of missionary parents, MGK lived in various places including Germany, Egypt, Kenya, and Texas before his teenage years. Regrettably, his father passed away in July 2020. The rapper expresses optimism about ending the cycle of inherited trauma during his lifetime. He stated, “Every platform I’ve communicated with suggests there’s a generational curse on all the men in my family; they will die alone, and they all have died alone. As the seventh generation, I should be able to break this curse.”

He elaborated on the deeper meaning of his birth date, the 22nd, being a “master number,” often referred to as a “key to breaking curses.” In his words, “I really hope in this life I can achieve mastery over my highest potential and purpose. It’s a challenging path I’m currently navigating with that.”
