Macaulay Culkin Pitches the ‘Home Alone’ Legacy Sequel We Deserve

Macaulay Culkin, best known as Kevin McCallister from Home Alone, has hinted he might be open to reprising the role in a future movie. He shared this while on his recent tour, but emphasized that the story would have to be really good for him to participate.

He wasn’t ruling out a return, but emphasized that the circumstances would have to be perfect.

Fortunately, Culkin has an idea for a sequel that seems promising. He described it as a story where the adult Kevin McCallister is a father – either a widower or divorced – who isn’t giving his own child enough attention.

This situation makes Kevin’s son furious, and it finally explodes when Kevin finds himself locked outside. As Culkin explained, his son refuses to let him in and is actively trying to catch him with traps.

The upcoming Home Alone film will be a complete role reversal. Instead of defending his home from burglars, Kevin McCallister will now be the one trying to outsmart the complex holiday traps set by his own son.

Culkin sees the story as fundamentally about emotions, explaining that the house represents their relationship. He describes his character’s arc as needing to reconnect with his son – essentially, earning back his trust. He admits that’s the best way to quickly summarize the plot, and he’s open to the idea if it’s done well.

The actor is hesitant to rejoin the film series unless the script is really good. He made this clear during a fan event in December 2024, jokingly referencing the poor quality of some previous sequels. When asked about another Home Alone movie, he said that almost any script would be an improvement over the last one.
